I definitely preferred the "new" more serious and realistic James Bond, as opposed to the "old" Bond who was perfect, said too many one-liners and used campy gadgets.therogue wrote:Having finally seen Quantum Of Solace, I recommend it completely. Daniel Craig is definately my favourite Bond.

vs this new one who in Casino had basically complete heart failure, got his arse kicked, flipping in a car sixteen times, and still got up and ran around like he was fine? Yeah, more serious and REALISTIC indeed...DeadPoolX wrote:I definitely preferred the "new" more serious and realistic James Bond, as opposed to the "old" Bond who was perfect, said too many one-liners and used campy gadgets.therogue wrote:Having finally seen Quantum Of Solace, I recommend it completely. Re: Movies?, movies!
Well... for the franchise itself, the Bond from Casino Royale was more serious and realistic. The series has never been completely true-to-life (as if that's a surprise!), but to be fair, most Hollywood movies take unbelievable liberties when it comes to realism.Tawmis wrote:vs this new one who in Casino had basically complete heart failure, got his arse kicked, flipping in a car sixteen times, and still got up and ran around like he was fine? Have you ever watched a car chase scene? Most likely you have, since nearly every action movie has has one since Bullitt in 1968. Look at what the hero does in those chase scenes -- endanger lives, cause massive property damage, and perform stunts that would either cripple or kill someone in real life.
I'm always amused when someone drives (or worse yet, jumps) their car from a second or third-story parking garage and then lands on the street, safe and sound. In reality, such a maneuver would have shattered that individual's spine.
So was Casino Royale realistic by real world standards? Of course not. However, it was far more realistic than the previous James Bond movies. That's all I was attempting to say.

I was just razzing ya. So many people have said it's more realistic - and I razz'em too. I guess I am an old man and prefer the campy, Inspector Gadget type of Bond myself. But we have ushered into a new era of Bond movies. I guess I will always have DVDs and such when I need my dose of Bond, while the rest of the world moves forward.DeadPoolX wrote: So was Casino Royale realistic by real world standards? Of course not. Re: Movies?, movies!
I'm just happy that they're not dumbing down the dialogue so much anymore. The last Pierce Brosnan Bond film was really bad for that. I like the most recent movies with Daniel Craig because they're more modern in attitude and technology, while maintaining the somewhat more developed story and dialogue. I don't mind the camp of the older ones too much, since I grew up watching them.
I know many people would want to tar and feather me for saying this, but my favourite James Bond movie is The Living Daylights.

Re: Movies?, movies!
My favourite James Bond of all is Sean Connery.
My reason is that... er... he's Sean Connery. No other reason needed! <fans herself swiftly to stop from keeling over>
Connery truly brought out the fact that James Bond is a dysfunctional human being - a ruthless man who uses people even when their use is a temporary and personal one (i.e., women). His success as an agent was due to relentless ruthlessness above all.
My second favourite BEYOND QUESTION is Daniel Craig. I love his take on Bond - and I think my favourite James Bond film so far has been the recent Casino Royale with Craig. I hope I find this latest film as riveting as I found Casino Royale. I certainly expect to.
I didn't like Roger Moore as James Bond at all. It seemed to me that Moore was under the impression that James Bond was The Saint, and so he simply played Simon Templar in the Bond films.
The most recent Bond films prior to Daniel Craig had James Bond turned into a handsome face above a tuxedo. It was a parody, and not a very good one at that. The character was no longer that of a flawed and deadly man - Bond was no longer Bond. And as Maia said, the dialogue...? Horrible.
There was something so BRAZEN in the early Bond stuff. That's part of what makes it Bond... It shouldn't ever be so suave that we (the audience) forget what Bond is.

Definitely... I haven't read a single book in the series, and I'm planning not to. I also feel that the film would be a huge disappointment, but I have more trivial reasons to watch it!

I don't blame you. I do that all the time. Whether it's an actress I am attracted to - or if there's an actor I really like.

I think I will be seeing it. Possibly. I need to drag along someone who likes these kinds of films.

I'll go with you. But really, then it wouldn't be about the movie. It'd be about me being in awe of someone I admire and adore. (Psst, that's you!)
