72 Hour SNES Fest Benefitting Make A Wish: June 2-5

Post by JasefWisener »

Hey everybody! You might have noticed that I haven't been around much lately, and, while mainly because of family things, it's partially because I've been actively working on a fundraiser that I'm hosting in May. I could go on about it, but it would probably be easier to just post the blurb that I wrote for distribution.

You can find the schedule (as it's updated) on the main site of the marathon at http://snesfest.weebly.com. I'll probably be posting about the marathon as it keeps getting closer, and it would be awesome if the SHP community watched some of the marathon. It's raising money for a wonderful cause, and any support is welcome. Thanks! :D
About the 72 Hour SNES Fest wrote:The 72 Hour SNES Fest is a three-day video gaming marathon benefitting the Make A Wish Foundation. Throughout the three-day marathon, different members of The Speed Gamers (TSG) Community will take part gaming and commentating in an attempt to raise money for the Make A Wish Foundation, and they will be joined by the host of the marathon, Jasef (JasefWisener in the TSG Community), and three friends (Jeffrey, Alex, and PhantomRob) that will be gaming and commentating in a central location. Fun games and events are planned to help raise money, and a couple of prizes will be raffled off to donators. For more information about the marathon, check out the SNES Fest topic in the TSG Community at http://community.thespeedgamers.com/vie ... =6&t=12320.

The Make A Wish Foundation is a non-profit organization that grants wishes to children of ages 2 to 18 who have life-threatening medical conditions. Since 1980, the Make A Wish Foundation has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work. The Foundation's mission reflects the life-changing impact that a Make-A-Wish® experience has on children, families, referral sources, donors, sponsors and entire communities. For more information about the Make A Wish Foundation, check out their website at http://www.wish.org.

All money raised in the 72 Hour SNES Fest will be immediately donated to the Make A Wish Foundation through PayPal. To donate during the marathon, click on the Chip-In widget above the streams on the main page. You can donate through PayPal or with a credit or debit card. The Chip-In widget is one of the safest ways to donate to charities online. At the conclusion of the marathon, the donation receipt will be posted on the main page of the website.

Wait a sec... you were gone? ;)

The SNES Fest sounds like a good idea. Unfortunately, finances are tight right now, so we can't denote to any cause. Believe me, if we had extra cash laying about, I'm sure we would've already donated some to the BC SPCA.

I understand the financial situation. Still, though, you should watch a little if you're free when it rolls around.

We're still working on the game list and schedule, but some of the confirmed games are Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy III/VI, and Kirby's Dream Land 3. There will be plenty more, but specifics are still being worked out on others.

I'll do a small update with the current list of games. There will probably be a few more added in, but this is the list as of now.

- Chrono Trigger
- Kirby's Dream Land 3
- Super Metroid
- A Link to the Past
- Earthbound
- Super Mario RPG
- TMNT IV
- Mega Man X
- Final Fantasy III
- Zombies Ate My Neighbors
- Super Mario World
- Super Mario Kart
- NBA Jam
- Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers

If filler is needed, we'll probably have some Super Return of the Jedi, Mortal Kombat II, Final Fight, and whatever else we can come up with.

Aww man. Wish I could donate. And partake in the game. Because if there was some MKII to be had, I'd be all over it.

It's definitely starting to take shape and look like it will be a somewhat successful marathon. We're shooting for 7-10 prizes to raffle off during the marathon, and 5 of them have already been donated. The first 5 are going to be perlers of classic SNES characters. We're going to have Chrono (Chrono Trigger), Link (A Link to the Past), Mega Man X (from...well, Mega Man X), Mario (Super Mario World), and Samus (Super Metroid). The other prizes still haven't been determined, but I'm sure they'll be awesome.

Small update. Our commentating schedule's almost full now (6 shifts left out of 24), and our game list is almost complete. It'll still be a couple of weeks before we get the gaming schedule itself done, but we're speeding up the process a little from what we had planned because we're trying to get some promotion and stuff in.

If anyone wants to spread the word or anything, it's a really good cause. Just saying. 8-)

In case anyone's interested, the dates of the marathon have been moved to June 2-5 because of a ton of scheduling issues. Can someone change the topic title to reflect the change for me?

We're just under 18 hours into the marathon and we've so far raised $326 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. I'm starting my first segment of Chrono Trigger at 3pm cst. We've been letting people choose the character names for $5 donations.
