Re: Tex Murphy: Overseer
Aw and I just finished it... Great though, if it'll sort out the movement issues I've had so far... Will check it out today, see if I can get it to work again. Am wondering if it'll read my CD5 (which wouldn't work in the game).

Re: Tex Murphy: Overseer
All it will do with CD5 is to copy its DATA folder into the installed folder. If the disc is somewhat damaged and is hard to read, the game might choke on it during game play. If the installer has trouble reading it, you may get some failed copies, as it will eventually skip files it can't read and continue with the install. If this happens, you can try to manually copy the missing files after installation. Any files that can't be copied you can request help in the Missing/Damaged Disks forum.

Re: Tex Murphy: Overseer
It was that OVERSSER thing again. The installer wouldn't recognize disk 5 as being disk 5, but it worked with the copy I burned (with CD name correctly spelled). I wonder if it's a common misprint: couldn't find anyone with similar issues online.

Odd. My disc 5 has the right label. Did yours also come with the DVD? I tried to get the DVD to work, but had too many problems with it, so I gave up on it. This installer is for the CDs. Was it able to copy all of the files from the 5th disc?

Re: Tex Murphy: Overseer
OK, I've got problems. It looks like everything installed ok. The copy window didn't close until I clicked finish on the installer box. So i start the game and i get the following message box:
Digital Sound Initialization Error
Another application is currently using the Sound Device or Intel RSX 3D drivers are not installed.
I click ok on this box and the game starts. I get to where Tex and Chelsea are talking at her place when all of a sudden I get this error message:
File error
file .\DATA\R01\Ro1.077 not found
I clicked ok 3 times and the game crashed.

Re: Tex Murphy: Overseer
The missing file is because of a mistake in the installer that copied one of CD's DATA folder in the installed DATA folder instead of the contents. I'll try to track it down and have new version out, soon. As far as the RSX error, it sounds like it didn't get installed. It is not an issue with UAC, since you have that turned off. Perhaps the installer could not find the RSX install files. Do you see an RSX3D folder on CD1?

Re: Tex Murphy: Overseer
I found what was causing the nesting DATA folders and have corrected it. I'll wait about uploading the new version until we can find what is preventing the Intel RSX is an audio enhancement from installing. It should install most of the files in that directory into your System32 directory. Do you see
- AAUDIO.DLL
RSX.DLL
RSXDATA.DLL
RSXTOOL.EXE
RSXCONFG.EXE
RSXCONFG.HLP
RSXTOOL.HLP
BUTTON.MID
RX1.WAV

Yes, those files are in the system32 folder. The dll's and rsxsetup file are in the RSX3D folder. I'm running Microsft Security Essentials.

Do you see the following entries of:
What happens when you run the DSX configuration utility (rsxconfg.exe)?

Re: Tex Murphy: Overseer
I see all that code in my registry. I ran the RSX diagnostic and got a couple of errors.
Re: Tex Murphy: Overseer
OK, the RSX needs to be installed in compatibility mode, So I set it as separate installer that gets called by the main installer in compatibility mode. This seems to work, at least for me. Note that the first time that you click the test button, you will get a short burst of static, but the 2nd time it will work as it should. I have also added an option to not do a full install for those that want to save disk space. In-game videos are also set to run non-interlaced as default.
