Altered Beast was okay; I never really got into it, but I definitely played Golden Axe (and its sequels) and Street Fighter II. I wasn't that good at SF2, but my brother was. I actually preferred the Mortal Kombat series.

We should hang out some time (you know, the fact that you're in Canada, eh, shouldn't be a problem!) so we can play some Mortal Kombat and Golden Axe!

We could play the Burnout games as well!

This is funny, look at how very 80s the box art of the original Golden Axe was! Even worse, Tyris Flare's right leg (from the knee and below) is twisted at an impossible angle.

As for Gauntlet... well, the original versions didn't do much for me, but Maia and I enjoyed the PS2 copy of Gauntlet: The Seven Sorrows. We almost beat it, but ran out of time at my Dad's place, where my PS2 is right now.

Oh yeah the original was a simplistic game! But the console ones - like Seven Sorrows (and the other two or three?) - you need to go back and play those! Especially if you were playing co-op! Such a fun game!

Also the original Age of Empires game and its expansion, Rise of Rome. Love the ancient Greco-Roman setting.

Ever try Rome: Total War? Since you liked Age of Empires, you might enjoy RTW.

Which reminds me, I also did 7th Guest and 11th Hour. Those were great, because played with friends on that, and we all were putting our heads together to solve those.

I'd highly recommend getting your PS2 to finish it! I can't emphasize how much fun that game is!

By classic games, I meant older games in general, not just adventures. Twinsen's Odyssey or Little Big Adventure 2 is more of an arcade game with a story and adventure elements. Has anyone else played it?

Hey, if you could come up with an installer for Noctropolis and Blade Runner, I'd be happy.

Don't have Noctropolis, but I could take a look at Blade Runner. I believe it is a Windows only game, isn't it? Old Windows games that have compatibility issues on modern Windows will be hit or miss, as to whether I can solve those issues, but as I said, I could take a look at it.

I checked up on Rome Total War a few years back. It's a turn-based game and I hate those. Also, I prefer the city building aspect rather than the combat. My nephew has that game though and loved it.

RTW (like all the games in the Total War series) is only turn-based in the map and strategy screens. It switches to real-time during combat.

There isn't a whole lot of city building, however. The TW series is more about global conquest and changing history.

Although this isn't historical, you might like a game called Cities in Motion. I've never played it, but I've heard it's pretty good.

I find it curious that no one has mentioned some of the games that usually are mentioned in such threads, the Broken Sword games, the Discworld games, the Neverhood or some of the Star Trek Adventures. Relentless and Twinsen's Odyssey (Little Big Adventure 1 and II in Europe) are also often mentioned.

Oops - yes, I have played Broken Sword I and II back in the day, as well as Discworld I, Discworld II and Discworld Noir. I still have my Discworld CDs around, but I can't play them since I don't have a pre-Windows 2000 machine handy.

I recently got the first Discworld and Broken Sword/Circle of Blood games - haven't played them all the way through yet. I loved the Legend of Kyrandia games as well as the Monkey Island, Indiana Jones, Tex Murphy, Les Manley, and yes........ Myst games. Also the original Age of Empires game and its expansion, Rise of Rome. Love the ancient Greco-Roman setting.

If you enjoyed it, Dot, you'll probably enjoy the others - Age of Empires II (set in the Dark Ages through to the Renaissance), Age of Empires III (set in the age of colonisation through to the early 1800s), or Age of Mythology (based on... needless to say... various myths and legends, like what happened before Atlantis sank beneath the sea, etc.!)

Lots of fun. I still play AoE 2 occasionally.

How many memories! I still think that, despite its flaws, it's a good box art. I know that I wanted to pick it up as soon as I saw it on the shelf. It's flashy

I know Rath. I've replayed Monkey Island and Indy on scummvm. I have all of the Age of Empires games, AOE3 is my fave. And my all time favorite is AOM, I play the random map games at least several times a week. I'm addicted.... and i love the original campaign.

I played a bunch of classics before the Sierra fever knocked in, mostly copied stuff from class mates in the early nineties. Let's see, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom/Last Crusade/Fate of Atlantis, Disney's Aladdin, Street Fighter 2, Mortal Combat. I also like the Westwood stuff: Dune 2, all Command & Conquers, Lands of Lore: Guardians of Destiny. Of course I also played the ID Software games: Doom 1 and 2, Hexen, Heretic,... Then there are the Bullfrog games, especially Dungeon Keeper, love that one. Oh, and Raptor: Call of the Shadows. And Prince of Persia 1 and 2. And Sim City 2000. I'm sure there's tons more, not a lot of adventure games though as you probably noticed.
