Lucas adds changes to original Star Wars trilogy....AGAIN

Post by MusicallyInspired »

For the Blu-Ray release:

http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-201 ... _multiline

Worst is the one where Darth Vader now yells "Noooo. NOOOOO!" when picking up and chucking the emperor down the shaft in ROTJ. As if one "NOOO" from Revenge of the Sith wasn't enough. Why can't he just LEAVE THEM ALONE.

This is amazing for all kinds of reasons.

1. It's clear proof that George Lucas is living in some kind of bubble where the only contact he has with the outside world is a Yes-Man who keeps telling him people love the prequels. Or maybe it's proof that a CGI George Lucas has killed the real one and taken his place.

2. My brother and I once joked about making Vader shout "NOOOOOO" in every movie. Now it's become a reality for ROTJ in the exact spot we joked about. Sorry, but this is just too awesome for us.

3. What the heck is a Kreyt Dragon and why did George Lucas think Obi-Wan didn't sound enough like one? For that matter, if we're butchering things, why not have Obi-Wan use the force to create a hologram of a Kreyt Dragon? He still looks silly running at the Sand People in his cloak.

I hate to be the one to encourage George Lucas, but if he's going to butcher his own movies, why half-ass it? Throw in a musical number! Show us Yoda's midichlorian machine! Give the Sarlaac pit dialogue! Turn Jar Jar into a Muppet! Make Boba Fett a woman! Chewbacca is Luke's real father!

While I am personally hating all these changes he's made (to the originals, I won't even speak of most of the prequels)... In the end, he is - perhaps - making the movie he had always envisioned it to be, but the technology or whatever wasn't there - or after many viewings, and hindsight, there's things he wasn't originally happy with. It sucks, for those of us who enjoy the originals - as is. Hades, I wish he'd also offer the originals - untouched - on BluRay, but that's never going to happen.

That scene in ROTJ was one of the most moving and important ones in the SW series! The way Vader dealt with the conflict of emotions he felt and then acted -- silently, I might add -- really defined his character.

Having Vader yell "No! Noooo!" simply destroys all of that.

Although I sympathize with the purists who have linked the Star War movies with some important nostalgic emotion, I must confess that I also understand George Lucas

Lucas actually tries to keep his saga alive and current. I am a person who believes that an artwork is never complete and some visions belong to their creators; a simple example: I occasionally like to review my old creations (eg. silly poems :P) and make corrections and tweaks here and there, no matter how old they are. And even if my work has been famous and loved by millions of people for 30+ years, that would not hinder me from updating them to something closer to how they 'should' be.

If a person decides to watch the saga for a first time, the Old Trilogy has some elements which can't be easily felt or enjoyed. Some sequences are slow and/or silent, and the puppets are puppets. I don't mind how whimsical a blinking Ewok may seem, but when I see a furry alien creature in a 2011 movie, I expect it to blink as it should.

When I first watched ROTJ I just wondered why Vader dropped Palpatine. Yes, I guessed that he felt sorry about his son, but was not sure, and never found out when he changed his mind. A present-day viewer wants to see on screen the moment when such dramatic changes take place. And no, Vader doesn't whine 'Noooo!' It is a quite Vader-ish announcement.

As for the Krayt Dragon, I never noticed that the Sandpeople were supposed to hear a monster and run away until I read about it. Now I can say that it is more clear than ever. And I wish someone filmed a scene with Ben performing this Force trick.

And yes, I really wish that the action scenes and epic battles would be remade too and it would be great if all the poorly-made alien puppets were fully replaced by CGI.

I had downloaded a fanedit of Episode 4 (dubbed 'REVISITED'). They had remade some action scenes, added some holograms and CGI and even added some background elements which referred to the Clone Wars. I just wish Lucas went as far as this (my only complaint was that they removed some scenes and changes made by Lucas)

I can understand Lucas's position (he did, after all, create SW) and he may have the right to alter his vision however he chooses, but that doesn't mean anyone else needs to like or agree with it.

I for one think that a piece of art should be final and untouched once it's been released. Just leave it. Its quality speaks for itself. If you feel you have to keep updating it and "fixing it" you must not really have liked it that much or had much faith in it in the first place. But once it's out there it's in the hands of the public. It's unfair to go back and change things. I wouldn't care so much if he had offered the original versions remastered and ready for Blu-Ray as well as these silly special editions.

I agree. The yelling is tacky and corny. It really destroys all the suspense.

I understand that George Lucas wants to milk every possible penny from the franchise, but why does he keep touching the first three films? At this point, it would be simpler - and classier - to make other movies set in the same universe. People will run to see them and he'll happily shower in doubloons, but at least the legacy of the first three movies would remain intact.
Talk to coffee? Even Gabriel isn't that addicted!

Let Lucas change things all he wants with the original movies. Let him give Luke pink hair and CGI lice. I'd support it - as long as he would simply re-release the the original films with the original content.

Irritating. Like sand in your bathing suit.

He probably will once he's done screwing around with the series himself. It'll probably be in some large, extremely expensive ultimate collector's edition or something.

I don't think so, or else he would have done it on DVD too, to get sales there.

Yeah, but he's apparently not done yet. Like I said, when he's done (and who knows when that'll be!) he'll probably put out an overpriced collector's edition with original and edited versions.
