Well, I went with originals that became a series, that started with AGI versions. (So, I didn't include things like Black Cauldron, though it was AGI; or like Manhunter, since it wasn't a part of the "original" QUEST series).AndreaDraco wrote:OK, I understand. Shouldn't QfG be on it then?Tawmis wrote:going to do the "originals" - KQ, LSL, SQ, and PQ - all of them through (KQ1-KQ7, LSL1-3, er, 5-7, PQ1-4, SQ1-6). So there will be some mixture. The clear choice here to me is PQ2. Definitely a more "substantial" game than the alternatives.
Wouldn't it have made more sense to group the games by "era" rather than just doing it by number? So you'd group games into categories like:
Early EGA: KQ1, KQ2, KQ3, PQ1, SQ1, SQ2, QFG1, LSL1, LSL2
Late EGA: KQ4, PQ2, SQ3, QFG2, LSL3
Early VGA: KQ5, PQ3, SQ4, QFG3, LSL5
Late VGA: KQ6, PQ4, SQ5, QFG4, LSL6, GK1
CD: KQ7, KQ8, PQ:SWAT, SQ6, QFG5, LSL7, GK2, GK3

That'd hurt my brain too much. Me and thinking don't get along that well! Feel free to kick off an era one! I think these polls are fun, so the more the merrier - it's always a nice way to generate some additional conversation as well!jujigatame wrote: Wouldn't it have made more sense to group the games by "era" rather than just doing it by number? Agreed. After all, the "official SHP stance" is that there are 6 main series.AndreaDraco wrote:Shouldn't QfG be on it then?

See, I consider the originals - the ones that kicked off with AGI and were a "Quest" series.Collector wrote:Agreed. After all, the "official SHP stance" is that there are 6 main series.AndreaDraco wrote:Shouldn't QfG be on it then?
GK, QfG all came after AGI.

Easier to simply make a distinction based on major interpreters, i.e. Pre AGI, AGI, SCI0, SCI1, SCI32 and post SCI. This not only makes a distinction between graphics, it also indicates other capabilities such as music/audio, mouse support, parser vs icon based, etc. (ignoring the different versions of AGI and the in between versions of SCI, SCI0.1, SCI1.1, etc.) Most serious Sierra fans are already familiar with these different interpreters, too.jujigatame wrote:The clear choice here to me is PQ2. Re: Favorite Second In A Series (Plus Series I Champ!)
I was thinking of main series, not "original" series. I would consider both GK and QfG two very important series of the Sierra IP. It does bring up an interesting question. What minimum number of games should comprise a series?Tawmis wrote:See, I consider the originals - the ones that kicked off with AGI and were a "Quest" series.

Re: Favorite Second In A Series (Plus Series I Champ!)
I agree, GK and QFG are critical parts of the Sierra Series. But I wanted to go with a poll that dealt with "originals" and their growth as a series. As I mentioned, in this post, this poll was inspired by the convo (linked several posts in the previously mentioned post), that made me think of which game "grew" the most... which made me think, "Let's make a silly poll and see which game prevails!" (I know who will win in the end... I am very certain of it... but curious to see how the rest held up).Collector wrote:I was thinking of main series, not "original" series. I'd say 2. Like there's a Manhunter series, but not a Codename: Iceman series.
(I bet you even the people who coded Codename: Iceman don't know how to get past that one sub part, where you dive 600 feet beneath the cold...)

Perhaps a patch should be made to skip it?Tawmis wrote:(I bet you even the people who coded Codename: Iceman don't know how to get past that one sub part, where you dive 600 feet beneath the cold...)

As I understood it, this was a game Tawmis implemented, so the choices are decided by him, regardless of whatever the "official SHP stance" is or isn't.
If you don't like the options, don't play. It's as simple as that.

Can you work on that next? And also a patch where you can punch the guy for the bottle game in the sub?Collector wrote:Perhaps a patch should be made to skip it?Tawmis wrote:(I bet you even the people who coded Codename: Iceman don't know how to get past that one sub part, where you dive 600 feet beneath the cold...)

Re: Favorite Second In A Series (Plus Series I Champ!)
I chose Space Quest 2. I really need to get around to playing Leisure Suit Larry as well as a couple other Sierra games I missed. I might've chosen Police Quest 2, but I only played it once and don't remember much. But I played Space Quest 2 a ton. King's Quest 2 was a nice improvement over the original, but the game was more frustrating than enjoyable with the stupid puzzles. I won the game without knowing how to properly go through the poison thorns by going through it a step at a time with constant saves and reloads.
