any red baron fans

I find red baron to be an excellent game but it's sequels were just not as good of quality as the original and what's more awesome is sierra made it freeware a long time ago. It can currently be downloaded here http://www.dosgames.com/g_sim.php if you really want to. Of course It was never my favourite game but really I feel it was such an excellent game. I even liked similar games such as the shareware corncob for dos and hunt for the red baron for windows 95. I hate those microsoft flight simulators cause really I find them to be way too accurate to be of any fun. Most newer flight shooters really get too accurate and it ruins the experiance. Red baron really got it right on with the flight simulation. It's not too accurate but also not too inaccurate. any other fans of red baron and other older flight shooters.

Before I fully reply, I'd like to point out that we DO NOT link to abandonware websites on this board. While there isn't a strict policy against using them (i.e. if you want to download it go ahead), but we don't link to these sites due to legal issues.

The first Red Baron was one of my favorite games of all time. I probably played that game to death, flying for both the Royal Flying Corps and the German Air Service. Interestingly enough, I ended up learning far more about World War I through the game's manual (roughly 75% of it was background and history) than I ever did in any of my classes.

The one thing I disliked about RB was the overall tendency of your wing men to shoot your target (thereby taking away your kill) after you've damaged your target's plane. Sometimes I got so pissed off, I'd shoot them down. Naturally, I went before the Board of Inquiry, but it was worth it!

I agree with you in that the two sequels were nowhere near as good. They should have been better (at least the third game), but RB2 and RB3D simply lost something that made RB really enjoyable.

As for other older flight simulators, does F-19 Stealth Fighter by MicroProse in 1987 work for you? That was my first flight sim and although it was far from accurate or realistic, it was fun.

I've probably played just about every single flight sim ever made. Some of them include the following: Wing Commander, X-Wing, TIE Fighter, X-Wing vs TIE Fighter, Strike Commander, Wings of Glory, Jet Fighter II, Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe, Their Finest Hour: The Battle of Britain, Aces of the Pacific, Aces Over Europe, European Air War, B-17 Flying Fortress, IL-2 Sturmovik, MiG Alley, F-15: Strike Eagle III, Jane's F-15, Jane's USAF, Falcon 3.0 and Falcon 4.0.

As you can see, I like flight simulators.

I just wish more were around these days. Finding a good flight sim (that has been reduced to pure action and overall dumbed down on the consoles) is even tougher than finding adventure games. Amazingly enough, stores still sell all types of flight sticks, some of which include separate controls for the stick and throttle.

actually the site is 100% legit. Red baron is not actually abandonware but is in fact freeware and it was made so to support the sequel of the game. Mixed up mother goose and inca are examples of abandonware and those games cannot be downloaded on the net cause that would be illegal.

Proof of the game being freeware.
The site I linked to does not have abandonware. It's all demo, freeware, gpl or shareware. Gpl means free with certain restrictions if anyone did not know.
