I'm interested in getting Red Baron 3D, but I'm a bit confused.. What exactly are the differences between 3d and II? Does II have anything exclusive that is not in 3d? Is there any reason to get II if I already have 3d? Also I've read about different patches like hells angels, full canvas jacket etc, are these included with II/3d or will I need to apply these patches after getting the game?
Basically, what all do I need, to get the most out of II and/or 3d?
Lastly, I noticed there are no installers for II or 3d, or Curse You Red Baron.. Are there plans to be? Or are they easy enough to install on their own (will they work on vista/win7 without any tweaking)?

Re: red baron 3d
They are essentially the same game, but with the latter game (I believe it's II) shipping with bugs from the earlier game fixed. If DPX sees this he can confirm which came first. I have looked at the games, but could not get either to run on my Win7 x64 system. At some point in the future I may see what I can do with the Application Compatibility Toolkit, but this can be a long tedious process with no guaranty that it will work. Perhaps if I get some free time, but don't look for anything for the foreseeable future.
Setting up a VM with Win98 might be the way to go if you want get it going right away, but remember, most of the VMs may not support all of the DirectX graphics modes needed. I would look at VMware, first.

Re: red baron 3d
RB3D is the patched version of RBII, but it was also sold as its own game. A bit odd, I know, but at the time most online connections were dial-up, so large downloads weren't possible.
Despite owning all three RB games (RB, RBII and RB3D), I still prefer the original. For some reason, it just felt like a better game -- or at least more entertaining -- than its sequels.
Anyway... here's what RB3D offered:
1. GLIDE support, which means it'll only produce high quality graphics (for 1998) if you have a Voodoo card. Modern video cards can't take advantage of this without a GLIDE wrapper.
2. Numerous bug fixes and an improved flight model.
3. Improved multiplayer capabilities, allowing for a player total of 76 (as opposed to 10 in RBII) in a game.

Thanks for the info. DPX, what OS are you running RB3D on? You say RB3D is the patched version, does that mean it includes all of the patches, or will there still be any additional patches that I'll need to download and install myself? And would zeckensack be a good wrapper for this game?
Re: red baron 3d
I don't think he has the games currently installed. There are several updates for both games.

Collector's right -- I don't have the games installed; in fact, they're gathering dust at my Dad's house, like most of my Sierra games.
As for whatever updates both games might need, just follow the link Collector posted.
