Maia and I already paid for and printed our tickets. We're going on Tuesday because the theatre here has lower prices then ($6.50 per person instead of $10.50). Unfortunately, I bet a lot of other people will be doing the same, so it'll probably be packed.

Forget ticket prices. Pay anything. It's one of the most epic and amazing movies ever. At one point, I actually jumped up and started clapping. And I didn't feel ashamed because half the theater did the same thing.

What Datadog said is true... Here's how I described it on FB:

For those that have seen it... I can only say THE AVENGERS was perfectly done. It's not just a super hero movie. It has plenty of dialogue. Plenty of action. Amazing character development. A good story. The banter, the humor, is so amazing. So perfect. If you have not seen it - go. See it. It's amazing. Beyond amazing. And make sure you stay past the credits to see something...

There's plenty of spots where you will want to cheer (especially if you're a comic geek) and some, where even if you're not a comic geek, it will be difficult to restrain yourself from not cheering!

We paid a little extra to see it at Cinepolis, because it has assigned seating (so no worries about finding or fighting for seats)... and the theater seats recline, with feet things... and it's spacious... and they serve food there... (see the photos on the Del Mar one for pictures). Well worth it. And we even paid extra on top of the extra for 3D (it's the only version they had there, and it was well done, even for 3D). I will be seeing it again.

I was kind of worried about this movie. The Marvel movies have started to really lose steam for me. Thor in particular I thought was terrible and rushed.

Maia and I saw the Avengers last Tuesday and we both loved it! In particular, we were surprised how the movie managed to provide a good story and strong characterization, as well as humor, without turning into a non-stop slugfest.

Really, we weren't expecting much, especially from a superhero movie involving several different characters, most of whom have had movies about them on their own. We were pleasantly surprised.

The best lines in the movie went to Tony Stark, without a doubt. The Hulk, however, had the best scene involving him and Loki at Stark Tower. Those of you who've seen the movie probably know which scene I'm talking about.

As for the Thor movie... I didn't like that one very much either. It was important to see for background information on Thor, especially when concerning the Avengers, but it was definitely less of a superhero flick and more of a mythological movie. That's fine in of itself, but that wasn't what I was expecting nor was I in the mood to see when Maia and I bought tickets.

Keep in mind, I've never read any of these comics as a kid. All I was exposed to was a few Batman and Spiderman comics. So I'm coming in from an outsider's point of view. Thor was decent, but I wasn't very impressed overall. There were a few clever and funny lines here and there, though. But it didn't impact me as much as any of the Batman, Spiderman, or Superman movies. I thought Iron Man wasn't bad, though. Still haven't seen the second one. Never saw Captain America either yet.

You really needed to see all the Captain America, Thor, Hulk and both Iron Man movies before watching The Avengers. It's not necessary, of course, but those earlier movies explain a lot about the characters and their origins.

The Avengers assumes the viewer has either seen those movies or is very familiar with the characters. In truth, even familiarity with the characters doesn't help as much as having seen the previous films.

It's because of those movies that The Avengers can start off right away, without needing to delve into a bunch of backstory.

That was the biggest problem with the other movies. They had back story to tell. Luckily Iron Man had a second movie to remedy this. The others, not so lucky I guess. I did see Hulk as well, though. But I understand it's not the same actor?

Nope, not the same actor. However, I think Mark Ruffalo (the guy who played Bruce Banner in The Avengers) did a much better job than Edward Norton.

I didn't really have any expectations either way before going to see the Avengers, but I really, really enjoyed it. Very well balanced in terms of banter, humour, action, and characterisation. I think doing a separate movie for most of the characters ahead of time was a good idea.

I was glad to see them change the Black Widow from the eye candy that she was in Iron Man 2 to a real and interesting character, with her own impressive skill set (that was so awesome when she tricked the trickster! ). After seeing the Avengers, I'd really like to see a back-story movie for her, but only if Joss Whedon writes it as well.

I think Joss would do good writing her movie, since he did Buffy. He clearly knows how to write a strong, female lead. (I don't mean strong physically, as in super muscles, or anything, of course).
