Where GOG differs, however, is that their games are almost entirely DRM-free, so once you download a game and install it, you don't have to run any other software (like you do with Steam) in order to play the games.
I say "almost entirely" because games that had copy protection when initially released still retain it, but GOG supplies the manuals and any other documents needed to bypass it. Even so, it would've been nice if GOG had simply edited or removed the copy protection itself.
Backing up games is a little easier on GOG as well, since you can simply download the game's exe (or use GOG's own downloader) and then copy it to an external hard drive or USB thumbdrive.
As for tweaking, I don't really know. I haven't had any problems, but maybe I've been lucky.
