Quest for Glory Madness!

Post by Rath Darkblade »

Heh. So I was looking at the TV-Tropes page for Quest for Glory (yes, yes, huuuge waste of time, I know :P), and I was surprised by how much I can remember and - even more - by how much I can't. So let's play QfG Madness: Name that Easter Egg! :)

WARNING: MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD. Obviously. ;)
• Anti-Hero: The Thief...! It's sometimes funny when your friends introduce you to others as an acrobat or spy, mostly because they're too embarrassed to admit you're a criminal.
When does this happen? I don't remember this... anyone?
• Bloodier and Gorier: In Quest For Glory III, many death animations show the hero melting, (if poisoned,) impaled by a spear, or turning into a food product such as a hamburger or (in a famous easter egg) a pizza. (When eaten. And no, it is not as graphic as you think.)
Does anyone know about this? I've never seen this one...
• Brick Joke: The QG3 documentation lists "Thermonuclear Blast" as a possible spell. It only appears at the end if the demon succeeds in opening the gate for the Bigger Bad to pass through.
Has anyone seen this? I haven't... ;) I thought that Ad Avis used the Thermonuclear Blast spell to kill Katrina in QfG4, although maybe I'm remembering it wrongly. ;)
• The Dev Team Thinks of Everything: Certain commands produce amusing results; the most famous is "pick nose", which has you use your lockpick on yourself, either killing you or opening your nose depending on how skilled you are. Trial by Fire has a few of its own, such as "put down lamp" making your character verbally abuse the item, "drop lamp" makes you break up with it, and "give Ferrari the bird" has... well... the obvious result.

? The "pick nose"-thing was taken even further in the remake of the second game. Not only could you pick your nose, but surrounding characters actually had a wide range of reactions to it... ranging from giving you a weird look, making fun of you, or throwing you out of their house.
Does this really happen? I haven't seen this... ;)
• Half-Human Hybrid... Goons are considered half-human, half-ogre.
Err... but the only ogre we've seen is Baba Yaga, so what kind of human would mate with her?
• Hurricane of Puns...
And how! :P
• Meaningful Name: There are tons of these in the series, from the baron's son Barnard (bear) in the first game, and the money changer Dinarzad ("Child of Gold Coins") in the second game all the way up to the final game's Kokeeno Pookameeso ("Red Shirt").
Hey, I didn't know about the first two. Nice...! ;)
• Stay in the Kitchen: Several characters in QFG5 make disparaging remarks about Elsa's fighting ability; considering she's the strongest NPC warrior in the game, however...
They do? I thought only Magnum Opus did that? *shrug*
...The sheer number of stupid ways for you to die in the first game is impressive. You can shoot yourself with your own spells, throw rocks and daggers into your own face, and you can decide to sleep in the middle of a hostile forest.
Has anyone tried this? I know you can die from sleeping in the forest in Spielburg, but I haven't tried the others... ;)
• Prolonged lack of sleep makes you lose stamina and health and may kill you. However sleeping from "It's not yet dawn" to morning is considered long enough. On the other hand, some nightmares you get near Erana's Staff in QfG IV do not count as sleep.
Doesn't it? Has anyone died of lack of sleep after sleeping near Erana's Staff?

Sorry for all those questions - maybe they sound a little thick - but I haven't played QfG in years now, and I'm not sure if it'd even work on Win7... *blush*

I think he meant WHERE you are, not HERE you are. (Unless he's doing some Yoda speak...)

Tawm got it. It was a result of posting while being distracted by several other things demanding my attention.

If I were a real person instead of a lovable adventure game character with the potential for a few more sequels, I wouldn't even consider it. Skoal! </guybrush>

*drinks a Dragon's Breath*
*eyes pop out of head*
*bounces around like a Looney Tunes character* :P

Well I don't know, Bruno in QFG1 says I should try it... And he seems like a nice guy all in all... I think I should trust him ;)
