Best Sierra Puzzles Tournament: Round 4
And we're back! Only four remain for round 4, and yes - it has become an all-Jane Jenson throw-down as King's Quest and Gabriel Knight butt heads for the next-to-final showdown! So without further ado:
This round's battles are:
1. "Gabriel Knight 3: Le Serpent Rouge" vs. "King's Quest 6: The Five Gnomes"
2. "King's Quest 6: Death's Challenge" vs. "Gabriel Knight 1: The Schattenjäger Rituals"
And the voting begins when Valanice reaches out and grabs the cheese!
Any time, Valanice. Maybe try stretching your arms?
Okay, so you're royalty. You can't be expected to strain yourself. Fine. Just use that stick in your inventory and fish it out.
Wait - where are you going? Valanice, grab the cheese! It's only a few inches away!
Stop walking away from your problems! Get back to town right now!
Why did you walk all the way to the desert? Reaching three inches further could be saving you so much leg-work!
Oh, I see, you're trading something. What does the rat have - a fishing pole? A net? A cheese fork?
A STICK?! YOU WENT ALL THAT WAY FOR A FREAKIN' STICK?! YOU ALREADY HAD A STICK! GAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!
Forget it! She's got the cheese! Let the voting begin!

1. "Gabriel Knight 3: Le Serpent Rouge" - it's the best ever.
2. "Gabriel Knight 1: The Schattenjäger Rituals" - tough call but I have to go with GK again. I love the improvisation in this puzzle.

Re: Best Sierra Puzzles Tournament: Round 4
1. The Five Gnomes - Because this is the puzzle one can use to introduce anyone to adventure games. Le Serpent Rouge is well thought out, but too elaborate by comparison where you literally need to go out and do tons of back-tracking just to move the puzzle further.
2. Death's Challenge - More simple than the rituals, but the weight and pay-off behind solving it are better. In GK1, the player has more motivation to solve the rituals than Gabriel, who's just goofing around before Gerde starts vacuuming. In KQ6, there's clear motivation for both the player and Alexander to outwit Death, and the pay-off is a whole other ending sequence.
So all KQ6 on my end!

Re: Best Sierra Puzzles Tournament: Round 4
As much as I enjoy both series, I would say:
1. "The Five Gnomes" from King's Quest 6
2. "Death's Challenge" from King's Quest 6
Both were clever and simple, but unlike the other two Gabriel Knight puzzles, you need to make sure to have the necessary items for those puzzle, or you may have to restart from an earlier point in the game.

Not much choice in this one, as far as I'm concerned...!
1. Gabriel Knight 3: Le Serpent Rouge
2. Gabriel Knight 1: The Schattenjäger Rituals

Serpent's Rouge and Death's Challenge (I feel I'm committing sacrilege with this one but it all stays with Jane)

That darn cheese! Unfortunately, this is the first round that I can't vote in! It's those Gabriel Knight puzzles being so good that's stopping me (but prodding me to play the games!)
