That's why my wife and I try to buy DVDs or Blu-Rays from Amazon.com as opposed to Amazon.ca or other Canadian stores. It's annoying to see French on the cover when only one province (Quebec) normally speaks it. Every other province speaks primarily English.Hedegaard wrote:I also prefer the "original American" versions and not the watered down European versions, with several languages spoiling the covers e.t.c

Shipping for a game within the US is usually under $3-$4 dollars if not even free as with this game. As bad as it is with Europe, from Australia is much worse, in my experience.

... not quite a game, but an interesting book anyway. PQ 1-3 in a novelized walkthrough. I *think* they published later on a 2nd edition, that covered PQ4 as well. But I am already satisfied with the whole Sonny Bonds Triology
and "Gänseliesel Musikalisches Suchspiel", which is the German Version of "Mixed-up Mother Goose"

Re: New Acquisitions Thread (image heavy)
Hey thats really nice novel. Does it give away any elements of the gameplay? Like hints or tips e.t.c.? Can you scan a few pages of it, to see what its like inside please. Never heard of such a novel, great find you made!
Re: New Acquisitions Thread (image heavy)
It is not really a novel, it's the official PQ strategy guide. It has walkthroughs, background info, etc. and covers all of the games up to the point of publishing date. And yes, there is an edition that has PQ4. All for the main series had such guides.
Curious about the MMG. I see the Coktel on the label. Does it use the Gob engine?

Re: New Acquisitions Thread (image heavy)
Actually I have to disagree. It IS a novel. In total the book is much more than that. For each part you have the story as a novel, then you have the description of the whole walkthrough, then you have a points list, and then you have a chapter with maps. I don't have a scanner, but I hope the camera caught in a readable manner. If you click on the images it should be readable. The author claims to have written while being in close contact to Sierra (he mentions Josh Mandel and others explicitly). This is the novel section of PQ2, end of day one, when Sonny meets Marie at Arnie's Restaurant.
Regarding MMG: How can I tell, if it uses the "Gob engine"?
Best wishes,
C.

Re: New Acquisitions Thread (image heavy)
Well like all of the official guides it did present some of the game plots as fiction, but they were mostly intended as strategy guides with walkthroughs, point lists, maps and background info. I have them for all 5 series.
You can tell if a game is AGI or SCI, can't you? If it is neither I would suspect that it is Gob. If you listed the files I might be able tell.

Haha, excellent!! That is really great! A remarkable find.Constantin35 wrote:Actually I have to disagree. It IS a novel.
Are you going to read the novels, or is it just for collecting? Either way is ok of course, just would be nice to read a chapter at same time that you're playing the game at the same time. Would add an extra depth to the games I'm sure.
Re: New Acquisitions Thread (image heavy)
As I said, all five of the main series had a version. In addition to the The Police Quest Casebook, there was the King's Quest Companion by Peter Spear, which superseded the earlier Official Book of King's Quest, The KQ Companion is probably the most famous of the five. There were several editions, each released after new episodes of KQ from about V onward. It does have the character Derek Karlavaegan as an outside observer and chronicler of the events of Daventry during the reign of Graham. It does novelize the games, but as with all of these books, the novelizations are probably less than half of the books. The rest consists of step by step walkthroughs, point lists, maps and general info.
The Space Quest Companion by Peter & Jeremy Spear,
Authorized Uncensored Leisure Suit Larry Bedside Companion by Peter Spear
There was also The Official Book of Leisure Suit Larry
Quest for Glory Authorized Strategy Guide by Paula Spiese and Lori & Cory Cole.
I should put up a page about the books with a few scans.
There were also a few KQ novels, The Floating Castle, The Kingdom of Sorrows and See No Weevil.

Would be awesome if you would put up a page on the books! The Kings Quest companion most have been in the latest edition thick as the White Pages, or not?
Regarding the engine of Mixed-Up Mother Goose I will check on Monday, CD is in the office.
@Hedegaard: Actually, that is a great idea! I still have to replay PQ1, so I will read the corresponding chapters in parallel. This is going to be fun!

Re: New Acquisitions Thread (image heavy)
... and some new additions, that I just received. Willy Beamish on CD was probably the hardest find. Took me close to 2 years to finally find one.
Willy Beamish, CD, Shrinkwrapped Mixed-up Mother-Goose, CD Mixed Up Fairy Tales, VGA, shrinkwrapped Eco Quest 2 Btw, does anybody know, if a german Version of Eco Quest 2 really, really exists? Rumors (and 2 Screenshots) are, that it indeed exist.
Best wishes,
C.

Yeah, the Willy CD can take a while to find. I managed to snag it a while back. The Sega CD version is more common.

Re: New Acquisitions Thread (image heavy)
I'd say it's SCI. And to my surprise, looking at the directory tree, it seems to include the English, French and Spanish Language Version as well!Collector wrote:Curious about the MMG. I see the Coktel on the label. Does it use the Gob engine?

Re: New Acquisitions Thread (image heavy)
That is Mixed-up Mother Goose Deluxe. Curious that they handed it off to Coktel. The North American version only includes Spanish, besides the default English. If it is the exact same interpreter as the NA version, it will not run as is on anything higher than WinMe. There is a fix that I include in my installer, but I don't keep that one up to date as it is only a 16-bit game. It may work on that version, but it would not install the French or the German.
