Kings Quest Collection 2006 UK

Post by 1UpOldSchoolGames »

I have been having troubles running the Kings Quest Collection 2006 (Windows XP version). I Have Windows 7 and I can get all the games running except for KQ4 and KQ7. I really want to run KQ7 and the patches I have been trying to download from this website are being shut down by Norton anti virus due to some trojans corrupting your files. I would like to patch things up for running KQ7. Also this is the error message I keep receiving when trying to play KQ7:

"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."

I also tried running the kq7 folder with ScummVM and DOSBox 0.74, the game still doesn't work and I can't download the patches for it because of the virus's corrupting the patch files from this website.

Help would be much appreciated.

That is a false positive. Norton is notorious for false positives.

The incompatible warning is because 64-bit Windows cannot run 16-bit programs. Even if you could, the game would be unplayable because of a timer bug. You are unable to run KQ7 in DOSBox because version of the game in the collection is the Windows only version. KQ7 is not supported in ScummVM and will probably not be any time soon. Very little progress is being made on the SCI2 engine for ScummVM.

Hey the "King's Quest Collection DOSBox Update (KQCollectionDBUpdate)" has some viruses and malware loaded to it can you fix it?

Norton blocks it and you can find some stats here: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/0ed5 ... /analysis/

As collector advised you in your previous post, your Norton is reporting a false positive. The files have no viruses or malware

I also noticed that it passes Symantec which is the enterprise level of the same company as Norton, which brings in to question your PC. The installers from here sometimes trigger false positives because many of them have the ability to download missing items such as DOSBox and ScummVM or updates. The user is give the choice whether to down load them or not. The only thing that that they will download without asking is a small text file that lets the installer know the current version of DOSBox or ScummVM. The one you are interested in will check your version of DOSBox and ScummVM against the latest versions. It will offer to download them for you if either is missing or outdated. It will also offer to download the missing CD audio track from KQ6, Girl in the Tower that is played during the closing credits. That collection is also missing the DOS movies for KQ7, so again the installer offers to download them for you. It is a false positive. Thousands have downloaded it and have used it.
