Getting around to playing these (I have way too many games I purchased from GoG)... And currently in book 1.

I remember really enjoying this game, when it first came out.

But mother of gawd - I knew where the sunstone was but when he said, "at the bottom" - I thought he meant at the bottom of the bubbling spring thing (located in the middle of the screen). I did not think he meant at the bottom of the screen! *shakes head* (And a trivial bit of bothersome, I also disliked how that stream was at the bottom of the screen; but if you go a screen down, that stream isn't there... so it doesn't feel like all the pieces are connected on the map).

And the freaking altar.

OMFreakingG.

I forgot how annoying this was; I probably tried about 20 times, before I just got all the stones, dropped them in front of the altar - saved - and tried each stone; if it failed, restored, moved to the next stone. That's absolutely silly and very frustrating. Some logic here would have been nice.

Don't forget that you have the Caverns to go through, yet. Partly, these are all reasons for why I like the 2nd game a lot more than the 1st.

I believe that's where I left off yesterday - just beyond the frozen wall that is shattered... by a flute? Really? Man, I am not even sure how my friend Shawn and I managed to finish this game (though I know we did!) way back when we first played it... There isn't a lot of logic... there is a lot of trial and error! (And to think, when my friend Shawn and I played it, it was before the internet was what it is today! We played this when it first came out! BBS's were the thing back then...)

Perhaps because kids are not that logical at that age so you had no trouble with it back then? ;)

I am thoroughly convinced, in my youth, I must have used a walk thru...

Going through the caves - spent about 20 minutes - and still didn't get it right. Going to go back to it when I have some more time...

Okay - now that I finished Dagger of Amon Ra - I think I am going to return to LOK1 and see about beating it (or at least getting out of those caves!)

I love Kyrandia. I think it's the first PC game I ever played. Plus it led me to King's Quest.

The game does have some charm. However, in addition to that dreadful cave maze, I also dislike the inventory system.

The caves... I guess they're hate to love. After all the trial and error from the gems (and how on earth did I figure out that plant thing?) I still somehow felt the energy to do all of the maze.
Thing is, after that my mood for trial and error was gone and I did most of the rest with a walkthrough.

It had been so long since I played it - when I got to the gem part and put those things up there and the wrong ones would vanish. I remembered (isn't it just pure random?) - to save. So I'd save, put on on there, if it stayed awesome. If not, restore, try the next gem. Rinse and repeat until all of them were in place.

Yes. The inventory system is a bit ... different.

Would have been cool if all adventure games followed one format!

(I feel the same way about first person shooters, and the like - wish all the buttons did the same thing for all the games!) :lol:

It's one of my favorite adventure games. I thought the inventory system worked good. Everything was on one screen and easy to manipulate. The audio was awesome. Some of the screens were visually stunning at the time. I hate mazes in games, but the cave part in Kyrandia doesn't bother me too much. It's not complicated enough where I couldn't memorize it after a short time. Plus you're able to drop those glowing berries to help you find your way around. Between that and the landmarks you find, it's pretty tolerable. The only thing I remember being annoyed with is some of the pixel hunting you had to do. I remember one item that was hard to see in the maze.
