Same as President Reagan. He was pretty popular back in the day when he was president. But ask a kid who President Reagan was, or what he did as a president - or what he did before he became president (an actor), these kids will, for the most part, have no clue.

Not quite who'd I'd compare Graham to, but I like the analogy. Kind of like how the Roosevelt most kids are familiar with is the one who rode a moose to the moon and wrestled bears with his moustache instead of FDR.

Datadog's referring to Cracked.com's many articles/mentions/references to Teddy Roosevelt, who tend to portray him as a real life Batman of sorts.

Obviously they exaggerate a bit, but Roosevelt did do a lot of awesome things, or at least, he did them in a manner consistent with what would now be known as "complete badassery."

Hmm. The only thing I can remember about Teddy that was truly awesome is when he was shot while on the campaign trail. He insisted on finishing his speech before going to hospital to be treated.

He also shot a whole bunch of animals while on countless safaris... some people might find that awesome, but I don't...

Something you need to remember about sites like Cracked.com is that they're primarily a comedy website. Most of what they do is for humorous purposes, although in recent years they've spent an inordinate amount of time debunking myths, rumors, urban legends, and other sorts of misunderstandings.

In fact, I wouldn't hesitate to say that the articles on Cracked often have more journalistic integrity than many on so-called professional sites, given that the news media is simply interested in getting ad revenue nowadays and act like tabloid rags to do it.

Different time, different ideas. I don't particularly consider hunting a great thing, but during Teddy Roosevelt's time, thoughts about this were a lot different.

All of this said, let's get back on topic about Sierra. Nothing wrong with talking about Roosevelt or anything else, just that if we want to continue doing that, maybe we should create a separate thread for it.

Yes, I'm well aware that Cracked is a comedy site. I've seen some of their articles on historical topics - I wouldn't trust them for in-depth research, but they're occasionally amusing (even if they generally go VERY over-the-top).
