Need Help Installing: Hoyle Card Games 5

Post by TBBW »

I recently pulled my old Hoyle Card Games 5 (2001) disc from storage and tried to install it on my Win 7 machine. For some odd reason, nothing is happening. I've installed it on another WIn 7 machine in the past year or two, but it's not working on my primary PC.

I've tried Compatibility mode, turning off UAC, System Security, and a bunch of other things but "Install" never does anything. After a few seconds it shows "Play" which also does nothing after a few seconds of a spinning icon.

Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. This was always my favorite of the Hoyles, as it had Skat and some of the best characters to play against.

The Hoyle titles from that era are a bit confused. I am not finding one from 2001. However, the copyright year does not always match the release date. Could you post and image of the label for me to be sure which one we are talking about? If I do not have it, what help I will be able to offer may be limited.

You're right, this is Hoyle Card Games 5 released in 2002. If the disc matches the box, then I've linked an image of the box after the picture of my disc.

Unfortunately, I do not have that version, however I do have Hoyle Card Games 3 which seems to exhibit the same behavior. Anything that I discover may or may not apply to your version. This is the era of the WON network. It may be trying to connect on initialization. Not sure if that would prevent it from starting when it cannot connect.

I cannot promise anything, but give me some time and I'll take a look.

It shouldn't be the WON network, because I've been able to play this title for years on my laptop - both with and without the disc. I have a feeling it's something about using a 64-bit CPU architecture that the game doesn't like; my laptop is a Win7 x32 machine.

I own that game. I just tried installing it on my Windows 7 Laptop. It installed without any problems. Not sure why it's not working on your computer. :(

Sorry I can't be of more help!

Talk to you later!

I'm still around hoping someone can help me with this one. I'm pretty sure the issue is the 64 bit architecture. But I have no idea how to solve the issue still.

Just a thought, but have you tried installing XP Mode or a VM program?

I don't know if either would work, but at this point, it might be worth a shot.

He may not have XP Mode available, but it would probably work. VMware Player would work, too, but an old copy of Windows would be required.

Yeah, I cannot in any way shape or form install XP Mode. It keeps saying that it's inapplicable to my computer. Bleargh.

So you guys are thinking some sort of virtual load?

XP Mode is available for Win7 Pro or higher. If you have an install disk for an old version of Windows, try VMplayer.
