Just letting you know that, as of tomorrow, I will be off on holiday for 2 weeks to 'merrie olde England' and I will probably not have internet access (or at least, not enough to log on here... but I'll do my best).
I will be back in just over 2 weeks. Enjoy the forum while I'm gone!

Nope! Sorry for the necro-post, but I didn't go to Manchester. That happened the night before I was due to fly, so naturally I avoided Manchester.
Hi again! *sets down his suitcases* I had a good holiday and saw lots of nice things. How are you?
The flight there and back again was brutal, as is the jet lag. OTOH, I saw plenty of good things: the Tower of London (twice), Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament, Kensington Palace, the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich, the British Museum etc. I also took a day trip to Oxford and Cambridge, and another day trip to Bath, Stonehenge and Windsor.
I took lots of photos, bought many books, saw some good things. Life is good.

Um. This sounds like it would make for some awesome photos worth sharing on here, yes?Rath Darkblade wrote: I saw plenty of good things: the Tower of London (twice), Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament, Kensington Palace, the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich, the British Museum etc. I also took a day trip to Oxford and Cambridge, and another day trip to Bath, Stonehenge and Windsor.

(Especially Stonehenge, for myself...)

Re: Goodbye for now (but only for 2 weeks!)
Re: photos - absolutely! Let me get over the jetlag and get the photos properly re-sized etc., and I'll upload some here.
Incidentally, re: Stonehenge... the tour guide told us a great story that is too good not to share here. The stones for Stonehenge are several tons each, and come from a quarry in south Wales (they tested), and now reside in a field in Wiltshire (several hours away by car from the Welsh border).
Apparently, the stones were loaded on rollers in the Welsh countryside, then rolled to the Bristol River, loaded onto rafts, rowed across the river, loaded on rollers again and manhandled to the site, and finally shifted the right way up.
Unfortunately, one or two of the stones slipped and fell into the river - they tested! And I can just imagine the swearing. "You stupid bastard! Two flippin' tons this thing was - I still got the hernia! - and you go and drop it in the river. You rotten swine, you!"
