I think I have the DC on my steam account, but haven't played it yet. I assumed it was just a graphical upgrade, but it sounds like they are more different?
They are: originally the character Nico was a supportive character a bit like Grace in GK1, and like Grace she was upgraded to secondary protagonist in later installments. In BS1-DC there have been some sections added that have Nico as a protagonist, including puzzles in the Louvre and two puzzles that involve cryptograms.
Another major difference is all deaths have been removed in the Director's Cut. That's a pity, some had elaborate animations!

Speaking of cryptograms, I love this site:

I just finished a playthrough of the new Dear Esther: Landmark Edition. Anyone who owns the original on Steam (not the mod, the original commercial release) gets it for free. This time instead of using Valve's Source engine, it's using Unity and while the textures aren't any better, the game does benefit greatly from the engine upgrade. The lighting, spec maps, colour "richness", atmospheric animations (like bushes and such blowing in the wind) look way better. It also comes with a commentary mode which I played right away. It makes the game infinitely more interesting for me just listening to the commentary. Otherwise the same game (with a few achievements that are easily acquired). I always like behind the scenes stuff though. They offer some interesting thoughts on the story that I never thought of before.

Still a walking simulator though so if those bore you steer clear.

Finished Broken Sword!

It's in part a pity that the deaths were cut, to an extent - at one point in hotel Ubu when you have the parchment you don't know you can die by leaving the hotel while carrying the parchment until you've actually died. This is a little frustrating, also because Broken Sword is a lot easier than anything Sierra, the game practically takes you by the hand. It's the first lethal situation you come across, right after a situation which appears deadly but George automatically does something so you'll be safe.

I don't think you'd miss much by playing BS/DC before regular BS1.

I'm trying to play Grim Fandango, but getting it to run is a right pain in the neck...

I assume you try to run the original Grim Fandango, not the Remastered Edition? There was a glich in this game, on faster machines you had to slow down your CPU. Did you try this - http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/ResidualVM?

ResidualVM is still a wip. You could try the Grim Fandango Launcher. https://quickandeasysoftware.net/softwa ... o-launcher

I've tried the launcher, but that one didn't work well. Before I set the game to compatibility mode I could barely get past the opening cutscene, after I'd set that the game would invariably crash on the cutscene when you first enter the garage.

So I'm back at ResidualVM, which is what I used last time I played GF, and I already got myself locked in the employees only box.

I really need to think hard on how I solved the puzzles...

Hmm... by the 'employees only box', I presume you mean Glottis's shack?

I remember! I've played it before!
Great thing about replaying this game is you notice all the foreshadowing that takes place!

I keep a book with a lot of game walkthroughs of the games I've played. Reason? Well, when cleaning up I often found sheets of paper with game data I didn't want to throw away yet, like walkthrough sections, level codes, LSL3 copyright protection, age protection answers, the scheme of getting through the god-awful GRS section in Under A Killing Moon, puzzles from Shivers I fought hard to solve... so I decided to put all these walkthroughs into a notebook I bought for this purpose.

Presently I'm at year 3 at the lightbulb factory. I remember how I solved the anchor puzzle by accident back then, after much frustrated trying...

Finished Grim twice, moved onto Lemmings. I love the little blighters!

Back in the day I was a member of a Lemmings-forum but left because I felt too disconnected. I found it again yesterday, it's a lot more active than it used to be! Also fun to see my old topic on Lemmings Revolution pop up. That game was very buggy, one of the levels was broken.
I had a patched version, but that gave an extra error by adjusting the fall height - since two levels require the Lems to fall as far as they can, now I had 2 levels that were unfinishable instead of the 1 that was broken.

Apparently there has been someone who corrected the fall height issue... need to look into that...

Now that I've finished King's Quest V and the Commentary, I'm going to load up KQVI in a week or so. But today, I returned to Pillars of Eternity, which I had started at the beginning of this year. Had been going through nicely till I got stuck. Well, today was the magic day - that I got unstuck, passed where I was stuck, found the hidden button, go to the guy I needed to, dethroned (killed) the mad king, and moved on to the next quest (which I cleared, quite easily!)

Grim? As in Grim Fandango? *interested* Do you mean the new version? How was it - very different to the original? Better? Worse? I've been contemplating it for a while, so anything you can tell me is very welcome :)

No the old one... I thought of making a script out of it, but it turns out somebody else already did. And that didn't answer my main question either:
When you get the Rusty Anchor note, and show it to Glottis, he'll sing the song. When you show it to Olivia she'll read the poem. When you show it to Terry, he'll tell you about the bar. When you show it to Toto Santos, he'll say "Besides the song, the poem, the bar and the statue of the same name?" There's a statue outside the Justice building, but its name isn't mentioned.

There's only one thing I could find in the script that may not have been in the game, and that's that the anchor on the conveyor belt in the screen with the strong currents, is also viewable, but I don't recall that you can interact with it.

...I can't pick just one favourite character...

Where is Terry? I can't remember. It's about time I fired up GF again. ;) I remember the song, and Toto Santos (and his favourite design!), but not the poem. D'oh. :(

But Glottis's song is fun! :D

A favourite character? Chowchilla Charlie. He's such a sleaze-bucket. Or maybe Carla... she has issues.... ;)

I love Toto Santos's accent! "You asked for bunny!" :D
Olivia's great too, and Manny, and Eva, and Salvador of course, and the demon at the lift, and Glottis with his cute wiggling ears, and Lupe, and Carla...

Terry's the bee.

Oh, and:
Wind pierces my hull
An iceberg, a needle
Sweet whispered nothings
"Sail tonight!"
Astorm!
This deathbed harbor
By love's rusty anchor,
Forever moored.
Manny: I don't even know what that means!
Olivia: Thanks!
