The MASQ Games.

Post by Tawmis »

We had some of the repeat games:
A to Z
If I Had To...
Two Lies, One Truth.

But I also added some new games...
In A Sierra Game, I hated...
A Healthy Dose Of... Murder?
Now You've Gone And Upset The Cook
Lyrical Genius and Lyrical Genius II (Which One did you like better?)
I Question Your Character

Some of the games were meant to provide hints (Sierra Games = seeing what games people have played, Upset the cook = getting clues about their location, etc)... Some were just for silly fun (A to Z, Dose of Murder, etc). Were there some games you liked over others? Some you thought could have been improved?

What was your overall feeling of the MASQ event? Have fun doing it?

I love MASQ! I wish I had more time for it, visit to BF was a bit of a time strainer of the awesome kind... And I wish I'd picked a character I could play with more.

It may sound odd because of LED-light, but it is difficult for me to do things like finding a word that's in a song I know or writing a piece of text on a dime. the story and Lyrics 2 topics were a bit too hard for me to do.

I liked the Murder game, now that we've figured out a better working points system maybe we'll have a better one next time.

Question your Character is a bit empty. Maybe add a last letter first letter game element to it?

It was fun to play around. Although kinda hard to come up with hints about yourself.
My favorite was A-Z, followed by If I had to.

The in a sierra game, was nice as well.
The lyrics game brought some insights, but you really had to know the song (or use google)

I liked the question your character, but maybe some setting can be included.

The murder game... It was too slow at the start for me.

It was fun seeing you asMrs. White though, because ofthe connection to my name and avatar. :D

The Lyrics I can see, if you're not using a computer (because Copy & Paste) may be a little more difficult to do.
I came up with the Lyrics Genius ... but then later, thought - that's "too easy" - so I made the second one, where at least one word has to relate to the previous poster's set of lyrics. Made it more difficult, but a little more fun I thought. (But then, I am on a regular PC, so copy and paste was easy).

Yeah, the murder game was one that I had to keep adjusting based on posting volume. The previous years, when we had a lot of MASQ folks, posts were rapid. This year, with less people, it was slower, so I had to keep adjusting as we went along to figure out the right "pace" for dealing damage to someone.

It did seem very broad... It was a hope of sort of seeing someone's mind set, and figuring out their personality, based on postings. Like I have talked about Tolkien and Game of Thrones quite a bit, so it would be easy to pinpoint who I was (if I was an actual 'guess' MASQ person). Thought that leaving it open to be any character was the way to go. But maybe next time, tie it in, so that your character suggestion has to start with the first letter of either the previous poster's first name/last name, or something?

It could be anything; about games you like, where you live, what you look like, etc.

The If I Had To is always a fun thread.

I thought it was fun, because you can be extremely vague about what game you're talking about.

Yeah, the lyrics one, was a little insightful, but for me, was mostly something fun to do (especially the Lyrical Genius II, since it had more of a 'theme', rather than just posting a random line from a song).

I enjoyed "If I had to", Rhyming, and the Murder game. I liked diving into my pop culture mindset with the Character Question, but I agree more interactivity could've made it more fun.

Any suggestions for next year, how to make it better?

Was wanting to do some new games, so banged my head to come up with some. :)

So any suggestions for improvements of games I posted, or if you have ideas for new games, post'em. I will be using this thread as a reference for next year (God willing, I am still around come next year, for the MASQ) :)

I liked my first MASQ. It was fun and off-beat, and I enjoyed it! :)

I liked the If You Were/Had To game, the Rhyming game, the A-Z game... heck, they were all fun. The Murder game was a bit slow, though. I especially liked the "Oh No! You've Upset the Cook!" game. ;)

The Cook Game was fun, because I was watching CLUE again (I watch it like once a month) and thought, "Oh! Make a game about food!"

They were all kind of fun. I'm not really a music person, so the lyrics ones were kind of tricky. I enjoyed the murder game, and I think the sped up rules worked the best. It might be fun if there was some kind of reward/penalty to it. Like the "victim" PMing a clue to the "murderer" or something. The story was turning kind out kind of interesting. I had trouble with coming up with clues for the cooking game.

As BBP suggested, something simple like matching up last and first letters could work. Or naming a character with a similar trait.

example: Sherlock Holmes -> Harry Potter, both English
Harry Potter -> Winnie the Pooh, both know an owl :)

I had a blast with my first MASQ. All the games were great fun, and the suggestions everyone's made here all sound good. I'm already looking forward to next year :)

I'm glad you liked the story one. I wasn't sure how that would go when I started it, but I loved seeing where everyone took it. Hope Hilda and Harold finally get their shoes fixed!

Perhaps the story can continue, the next MASQ - if I remember - I can unlock it, and the new MASQ identities can continue the story next Halloween.
