Oxenfree

Post by Tawmis »

Has anyone played Oxenfree?

I got it from GoG a few months ago for free, during one of their promos.

I am just barely getting around to playing this - and I am only at 9pm (which is beginning stuff) in the game - and... I am highly enjoying myself!

Just curious if others have played it?

No spoilers please!

I just played this game last week. Also got it free, from Epic Games.

I really dig it too. The sound design is so creepy, and some of the set-pieces really had me on edge. It manages horror in a way I haven't seen before. Totally worth playing through, maybe once or twice to try out different dialogue options and choices.

Hope you enjoy the rest of it!

I'm sorry, I don't like the horror genre. :(

Trying to convince the wife to play it with me; because it feels so incredible.

It's not horror... Well, it might drastically change... but it feel more... How do you explain it?
Creepy?
Like... sitting around a camp fire in the woods, telling ghost stories...

Again, I've barely gotten into the game - because I immediately got to the dumpster (which, if you have played - Datadog will know what I mean) - and immediately thought, "My wife might enjoy this!"

She too doesn't like "horror" - but she does like the show Supernatural, and such. And it's not like Supernatural... But it's also not horror, like Friday the 13th...

It's almost... Gabriel Knight like, for the feeling I get (so far). So there is an aspect of "horror" ... but I feel like it's more... suspense. Again. That may change in the game. But so far that's the vibe.

So here's me playing the game - and this is as far as I got before I fell in love and wanted to see if my wife wanted to play...
And I think it shows the "horror" vibe (as datadog put it)... Like I said I don't know if it "gets worse" from here... but it feels very Gabriel Knight... more suspense/mystery... (datadog don't correct me if I am wrong and it turns into a bloodbath) :D

If it pops up as free again - I will be sure to post about it.

It is on sale on GOG for $4.99 - down from $19.99...

So... I'd say it's worth that, easily.

I'll let you see for yourself what this game has to offer. Interested to hear your take on it.

But based on the game's first fifteen minutes, it's a stylistically beautiful game in the spirit of a Stephen King mystery, or some other 80's horror franchise. I guess if anyone's into "Stranger Things", this game would be a good fit.

As I suspected - the wife is interested in playing.

Spoiler tags ahead...

So I started the game over - so she could experience it from the start. I am letting her control the dialogue. So far we had gotten to the cave - and did the thing with the radio frequencies - then down further - see a man about a dog - the triangles - then the flash - and the main character and Jonas end up in the tower - talked to Ren and... the other girl... decided we're going to rescue Ren first... and that's as far as we got in one sitting...!

But the wife is enjoying it - and now it sort of reminds me of .......Myst..... extra periods to make it so the game name isn't obvious... ... but not as difficult.
