I got a new job!

Well, it's nothing very special. The job itself is only a temp job, and will only go for about 3-4 weeks. But I've been on the job market for about 3 months (which seems like an eternity now), so some extra money for my budget would be very welcome.

Huzzah! New job!

I haven't got the email from the agent yet to confirm it, so I'd better not jinx it. I'm just basing this on what the prospective client said on the phone.

Just to update - no jinx! I just finished filling out all the forms and things, so it's all official. New job on Monday. Huzzah and hurrah!!! \o/

Well ... I'm gutted. I was filling in for a permanent while she was on sick leave, and this afternoon, I was called into an empty office by the boss's 2IC and given my marching orders, because the permanent is coming back on Monday.

Now, I knew I was on a short-term assignment, but three days ago my boss told me he was happy with my performance, and wanted to extend me for another two weeks. In the first 7 days I was there, I collected nearly $1m, which made my boss even happier. So he led me to believe that I had a future at this firm, no matter how short. Not only did my boss lie to me, but he also didn't have the guts to "downsize" me face-to-face, or even talk to me at all today. So I'm sad, and also angry.

If that wasn't bad enough, the 2IC told me that it was apparent to management that I wasn't happy at work. Well - I'd been feeling a little ill, with a sore throat that didn't go away and made it painful to speak, so that may explain it. I thought this would go away, but it's been 3 days and no let-up. So I went to see my GP, and was told I had pharyngitis. So, essentially, this firm let me go because I'm sick. GRR.

Now I'm generally an easy-going sort of chap, but now I wonder whether I should hire a team of piranha lawyers and sue the pants off this bunch of gutless wonders. Just for the satisfaction of seeing them collapse into the dust.

Thanks, Qbix. I was already looking for other work while working there, because I knew it wasn't going to last long (maybe 3 weeks - although the money was good). So, it's not like I thought I would be there forever. But still.

Anyway, the good news is that I found and applied for other work already, and a few agents offered to represent me to their clients too - and I already have an interview next week. So ... fingers crossed.

I really hate, hate, hate the employment/unemployment carousel ...

I'm sorry to hear that. I've had to do contract work myself and I've never liked the employee/non-employee limbo they put you in.
