Not available where I am ... :?

Besides, I've got far too much to do! I live by myself, so I don't have a lot of spare time - certainly not enough to sit around and watch over 600 programs. :P Heck, I hardly have enough time to watch ONE program a day, and that's usually 20 minutes of the news.

Everything Disney except Song of the South...
Basically everything on there that I wanted to see (and quite a few ones of which I wish I could get the time back) I already have on VHS. WHich includes Song of the South which I stopped after ten minutes because I didn't understand a word.

I pass.

That's certainly a lot of content. Content I miss. Enough to turn my head. I may get it eventually. Also, I've heard really good things about The Mandalorian, which even Disney Star Wars dissenters are enjoying quite a bit.

Well, I could go on about how much I enjoyed The Mandalorian... for several hours. And it's only the first episode.

I love that there's things on there that - for whatever reason - never got released on VHS/DVD/BluRay/etc - such as "Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends."
There's also shows on there I had always wanted to watch again (Gargoyles, for example).
There's Disney movies on there that I had seen - but haven't watched in EONS, that I'd like to watch again.
A ton of stuff, I own DVDs to, that I'd probably watch brainlessly (like when I am going to bed, such as X-Men the Animated Series, Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Star Wars, etc).
There's shows on there I never watched, that I want to (Star Wars: Rebels, Fantastic Four cartoons, some of the other X-Men cartoons)
And of course... The Mandalorian.

I am bummed that they don't have Something Wicked This Way Comes - Disney did the movie based on Ray Bradbury's book.
I was surprised that they did have The Black Hole.

Don't think it's available in Australia yet. My next streaming site sign-up will be Amazon Prime for Star Trek Picard.
No doubts the kids will bug me for Disney Plus when it arrives here. Not sure I have room in the budget for yet another service, but I'll admit I'm curious about the Mandalorian so if nothing else I'll probably get a free trial and binge that show when it's finished.

There's a smattering of Disney offerings on Stan, but nothing near the treasure trove this offers.

I wonder if this will be the death knell to their longstanding "Disney Vault" tradition. For those of us who prefer physical media, It'd be great if they issued their classics on DVD/Blu-Ray and then kept them in circulation (in the States, anyway). Their limited time only approach only encourages bootlegs.

Now, I have heard that Disney have been editing/censoring movies on Disney+ which I think is ridiculously stupid and could start an avalanche of movie censoring going forward that would ruin classics. Movies should be left as they are for better or worse. It's where we came from and we should remember it. This will set a bad precedent. In fact, that's probably one reason alone why I might not get Disney+. Because who knows what else they're going to/have edit(ed)?

In less scary news but still annoying, the version of Star Wars on Disney+ has yet another edit of the Han/Greedo shooting scene. Now Greedo says "Maclunky" for some reason just before the shooting starts. How much more can they screw with this scene?? lol

From what I've read, the older films haven't been edited, but some begin with disclaimers about outmoded values and such. One article specifically gave kudos to Disney for not cutting "problematic" scenes from the likes of Dumbo, The Aristocats and a few others. I'm hoping that's merely the case and they haven't caved in and started editing these films.

Naturally, however, because you can't please everyone - there is, naturally, outcry about scenes not being cut out...

So... there you have it.

I've heard that this was George Lucas' doing... again. Honestly, I thought Disney's acquisition of Star Wars might mean that there would finally a high-quality release of the original trilogy uncut. It's an easy way to make money and you no longer have Lucas as a hurdle. Now I have to wonder if there is some sort of stipulation in the contract.

One issue I have with streaming services is that I don't want to pay for something that I might not use. There are a bunch of the TV shows that I would like to see. I've gotten DVDs where I could (Disney has been much more reluctant to release these than other studios) so I can watch them whenever I want. I don't want to pay for a service to watch something, and then never use it again.

Another issue I've heard about is changes made to the aspect ratios of some series. Simpsons fans are upset about this. I wonder how pervasive it is.

Oh I had heard that they DID cut scenes from Dumbo. I guess they went back on that or it was a false rumour?

Another thing I read they also did was get rid of a fake blooper scene from Toy Story 2 where Stinky Pete is promising two Barbie dolls a role in the next movie.

Well, I can tell you: X-Men: The Animated Series, Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends and Gargoyles are all in their original ratio.

Tawm, from the article you quoted (in The Hill):
BuzzFeed News noted that a scene from “Fantasia,” however, has been edited out because it depicts a dark-skinned centaur named Sunflower taking care of lighter-skinner centaurs.

“Song of the South,” a post-Civil War story of a young white boy who moves to his grandmother’s plantation and befriends an African American character named Uncle Remus, is not available for streaming on the vast Disney+ library.

The 1946 film grossed $65 million at the U.S. box office and won an Academy Award for Best Original Song “Zip-a-Dee-Do-Dah” but has never been released on home video or DVD due to its glorified depiction of life for former slaves on a plantation.
Uh ... I don't understand what's wrong with that scene from "Fantasia". What's so bad about a dark-skinned centaur taking care of lighter-skinned centaurs? :? I haven't seen the scene, myself, so ... *shrug* If this is an allusion to slavery, I understand. But plenty of people take care of other people - e.g. old-folks homes and such. I myself took care of my granny for years, because of her dementia. :( So ... what's the problem?

Also, what's the problem with "Song of the South"? I haven't seen that, either. Perhaps it glorifies life for former slaves on a plantation, but then, it's not a documentary. The Uncle Remus stories are just folktales, they're not supposed to be real. I think it's a shame that folktales are being ignored and forgotten. :( I don't know whether these folktales are racist or whatever - are they? I understand if they are, but if they're not - if they're just stories for children - then what's the harm? I don't get it. :(

As for Disney editing scenes out of their old films - GRR. :x That's like Warner Brothers editing or censoring their old Bugs Bunny cartoons, or what they did back in the 90s - which was to remake the Looney Toons characters and make them more "edgy", give them spikes and what not. WB destroyed Bugs Bunny! :x Thank goodness they realised it and re-made the cartoons in the original style again. :)
