From what I've read, people have claimed JFO is "Souls-like," but very few people actually agree on what that actually means. I know the term is based off Dark Souls, but HOW exactly is JFO like DS?

Also, I've read that JFO only uses save points (like the bonfires in DS) which is a major issue for me. If I can't save when and where I want, that game had better at least have a "save & quit" function. If it doesn't even have that, then it's a "massive sale/bargain bin" title for me at best.

Well, I haven't played DS yet so I don't know how much like it it is or isn't. As for the save thing, I haven't run across any "bonfires" yet. It's just your basic checkpoint so far. But the beginning of the game is very entirely linear so it very well might have them later on once the game opens up.

As for "bonfire saves" I'm not against them on principle. It depends on the usage. The idea of earning save points appeals to me in certain situations. For instance, I think the save system in Alien Isolation is ingenious and integral to the game design. In adventure games and shooters I tend to want very much to be able to save whenever I want. In a third-person RPG/open world/combat/hybrid type of scenario....it could work or not work. Horizon Zero Dawn literally has bonfire saves (as well as checkpoints at certain situations) and I don't mind it at all really but you can get to one at any time and fast travel to any one you've already visited (with a fast travel pack, which I have dozens of so that's no problem either). We'll see how annoying or not it is in JFO. But seeing as the game has been compared to Metroid (which also has bonfire saves) I'm not worried too much at the moment about it.

Love Full Throttle. The premise didn't attract me to the game, but once I started I really enjoyed it.

The game isn't all that fun. Full of lots of disappointments. Seems to move very slowly.

(I do need to really look into getting a NAS backup thingie going...)

Love Full Throttle. The premise didn't attract me to the game, but once I started I really enjoyed it.

Full Throttle is fantastic. I just wish it were longer and a little harder. It's the biggest factor that gives me slight doubts sometimes about my stance on short and easy adventure games (that being that I hate them). It is quite easy and feels short but it's just so polished (maybe just some of the arcade sequences can be frustrating and tedious and feel like they pad the game out a bit) and just a great experience gameplay-wise and storytelling-wise. It's ny favourite Schafer game. Even though Day of the Tentacle is a better "adventure game" (by my own standards).

Dangit, Schafer! I'm supposed to value gameplay over story! Lol

I haven't played Full Throttle yet, although I love Tim Schafer's games. For me, it's a toss-up between Grim Fandango and the early Monkey Island games. DOTT, for me, was just too easy.

Is Full Throttle worth playing? I'm a bit wary of it, especially because of MI's assertions about the "arcade" sequences.

I believe when playing in ScummVM or in the official remaster the arcade sequences are all skippable. But that does end up shortening the game quite a bit.

Just ran through one of those games I played a lot in my early teens, Jill of the Jungle. The first time I played it I whipped through it until level 11 and called it quits, the second time I ran through and found all the secret passages again. Weird how well I remembered that game after it's been like twenty years...

It's such a noisy game! The soundcard version is as bad as the PC tweaker!

I remember loving the sound effects as a kid, bad as they are lol. I used to sit in the sound effects test screen (where every key on the keyboard triggers a different sound) and "perform" them to the music. Ah DOS games.

I finally went back and finished Full Throttle. I loved the Ride of the Valkyrie Bunnies, and most of the music, but there was quite a bit of padding I found tedious Old Mine Road, and the Bunnies - surely Ben is man enough to just take those things out of the box instead of putting the box out and then picking them up?, the utterly annoying demolition derby and the ending sequence where I died time after time again. I died. Repeatedly. In a Lucasarts game.

Haven't played any other Tim Schafer games to this extent besides Grim Fandango, but one thing that Grim and FT have in common is a completely pointless minigame - five finger fillet in FT and the chant game in GF (if you don't know what I'm talking about, after you freed SeaBee Terry he will be at the docs, doing a call and response chant with his fellow strikers. You can stand by them and press enter to say the crows chant at the time. If you do this with the correct timing for the entire chant, you'll get an extra chant verse. )

Because of this Quarantine; my wife picked up World of Warcraft and did a month subscription to play with me.

To be clear, the last time she played World of Warcraft, there wasn't even an expansion out for it yet.

She ended up popping a "110" which means you can take an existing character or even a brand new, level 1 character and pop it to 110.

This allows people who may have never played, or returning after years, have a character that's close in level.

I had a Demon Hunter (which I can't stand due to the frequency in which he tends to die) around the 110 mark (I think he was 112).

So she and I have spent a few nights, every so often, questing together.

BBP - I remember the chant mini-game in Grim Fandango, but it always seemed to be an optional thing to me. Right? It's not as if you advance the story or anything by doing it.

Good luck, Tawm. But, just wondering ... isn't WoW very, very addictive and very, very expensive to play? That's one reason why I stayed away from it.
