Idaho's deadly wolf hunt began as scheduled on Tuesday, and Idaho has already confirmed the first wolf kill. Take action now»

In March, Interior Secretary Salazar approved the Bush Administration's discredited plan to eliminate Endangered Species Act protections for wolves in Idaho and Montana.

And now, Idaho will allow 220 wolves to be killed this year in the first-ever state regulated hunt of gray wolves in the continental United States. To make matters worse, Montana plans to allow 75 wolves to be killed starting in October. Hundreds of wolves -- including this year’s wolf pups -- are facing death.

No other endangered species has ever been delisted at such a low population level and then immediately hunted to even lower unsustainable levels. This isn't wolf recovery; it's a rejection of responsible wildlife conservation principles.

Before I sign anything -- even if it's not legally binding -- I'd like to know more. While I dislike the idea of slaughtering animals, there might be a good reason behind this action. However unlikely that may be, I still need to know all the facts beyond one source.

EDIT: I've done a little research and one side says this will "manage wolf populations" while the other claims it'll "massacre wolves." I can see both sides of the argument. I think hunting in order to manage wild animal populations is a good idea and practice -- if the animal itself has a high enough number to sustain itself without becoming an endangered species.
