Mass Effect V in the works?

Post by Tawmis »

It would seem so.

I absolutely loath Mass Effect: Andromeda. I am sure I've mentioned it a thousand times, how Mass Effect 1-3, I was so feverishly playing them that it often took less than a week to beat them.

Mass Effect: Andromeda?

Let me find my post - ah, yes, here it is.
Tawmis wrote: Fri Apr 12, 2019 11:25 am Andromeda is like the game I go and play, when I am feeling so great, that I know I need to ruin my mood. One of these years, I believe, I may eventually finish it between my hour sessions of playing and hating myself for even trying.
I pre-ordered the game, because - MASS EFFECT. Got it the day it came out, right?

It came out March 21, 2017. I still have not beat it. Not because it's difficult. Just because it's a chore even trying to get into the mood to play the game.

I do hope this new Mass Effect goes back to what made 1-3 so good.

I did finish Andromeda. Usually once I finish an RPG, I go back with a guide to get all the little things that I missed. I did not do that with Andromeda. I am glad they are not abandoning the franchise. It would be such a waste over one disappointing game. I loved the original trilogy and probably replayed ME1 more than any game of that size. Although I am still not thrilled with the ME3 ending.

It's a truly fantastic trilogy. (Don't bother with Andromeda, which is the 4th... it's... I have no words...)

I want to finish Andromeda... I do. It's just after an hour of it, I ask myself why am I putting myself through this. :D

But I do want to finish it. One day. Eventually. Before I die.

I wish I could say I was excited, but... well, BioWare is pretty crappy nowadays.

As for Mass Effect: Andromeda, I could've stomached it if the game let me save when and where I wanted.

One thing I actually liked about Andromeda was if you kept your character's default name (Scott for the male and Sarah for the female) then other characters would sometimes refer to you by your first name instead of using your last name all the time or some predefined rank or title.

It's been awhile since I returned to Andromeda - but I thought it let you save whenever? I could swear it did - because when I typically go back and play - I look at my save game dates, to see how long it'd been since I'd played.

You CAN normally save when and where you want UNLESS you're in a main story-related mission. In a main story-related mission you're FORCED to rely on autosaves and checkpoint saves, which is nuts because those missions are the most important of the game.

As I recall, Andromeda didn't autosave very often and checkpoint saves where few and far between. This could've changed since I last played it, but I remember that — alongside not being able to manually save during a story mission — being incredibly frustrating.

At the very least, the game should've had a "save & quit" function so I could leave when I wanted without having to replay large sections of the mission over again.

This discussion got me loading up Andromeda. Played it for my lunch. On the stupid sulfur pit planet. Found 5 murdered victims (can't even remember why I was doing it). The other quest says On Hold.

Still didn't enjoy it. :D

But yes, you can save whenever (where I am anyway) - I have a metric ton of saves. Each time I load up I just make a new save when I quit. :D

Like I said, you can't save when undertaking a main story-related mission. Try it. Select a mission that's needed for the main storyline and once you're in that mission, you'll see you can't manually save.

That said, you can save at HQ and on any side mission whenever you want.

But still... to disallow saving on main storyline missions, where plot-related decisions will be made, is insane. Also, they obviously knew how to make manually saving work, so why not allow it all the time... you know, like they did in every other Mass Effect game or Dragon Age game.

I agree: not allowing manual saves is insane. :| Hard-disk space is cheap enough to make this easy to implement, surely.

And speaking of which: Manuel Saves! (Not really connected, but impressive anyway) :D

Yeah. I wasn't disagreeing. :) Just got to a part where the SAVE is grayed out (rescue the Salarian Ark) - I do like that they made me choose between (Race) vs (Person) - vague for spoiler's sake. I opted for (Race).
