Haunted Houses.

Post by Tawmis »

With Halloween coming up - I figured I'd share this!

Eons ago (1998?) my wife and I started a project to do a website on a haunted house in San Diego, called "The Whaley House." We spent a good part of the day and evening at the San Diego Library going through old, ancient newspapers that dated as far back as the Whaley House's creation - and made tons of photocopies to get as much information as we could... The Whaley House is now a museum more than anything... but... It's rather well known and one of 30 houses "certified" to be haunted. (Not sure on the details of how that happens?)

Anyway, our original website was on Geocities back in 1998 (before the idea of owning my own websites domain ever came to mind) - anyway, the original site was:

http://www.geocities.com/whaleyhouse

The site used to get slammed - especially around October, naturally, when people are googling the heck out "haunted house"... and the thing with Geocities is it has an hourly limit of 4.5 MB... once you exceed it the site goes offline for like an hour or two with a message about exceeding bandwidth...

Well I never thought about moving it to my own domain websites, until this message came into my mail:

That on Oct 26th, all Geocities sites will be removed as Geocities is going away.

So I figured, my wife and I did a lot of work back in 1998 to make the site - so I saved all the files, changed the URLs in the html (but left the rest of the html alone, as I have NO intention of redesigning the site... the code is 11 years old... and way out of date and very sloppy but that's how I did it back in the day!)

So anyway it now has a new home:

Feel free to check it out. :)

I enjoyed it immensely, Tawmis. Well researched and fascinating. Very good work! I will suggest it to other people who, like me, are interested in the supernatural! Thanks for sharing! :D

I'd like to visit the Winchester Mystery House. Ever since I originally heard the story, I've found fascinating. Here's the actual website if anyone is interested. It's in San Jose, California, so Tawmis could actually check it out! :P

Surprisingly - I don't think I ever posted them here before... Which is very unlike me, isn't it?

Well if you ever come to San Diego - I will be glad to take ya to the Whaley House! You should come around Halloween - they do the Haunted Tour and talk about Old Town, which has some interesting history.
