So... are you one of the Driver Series Games?
No, that's not it, either. I'll paraphrase the hint I gave Rath: "The game I'm thinking of is a lot older than the Driver series, and used neither 3D models nor sprites."

So... no sprites or 3D models? 2D models would probably be made of sprites. So... that's even more confusing. :D
I can't imagine this was a text adventure! :D Not on a console.

So - is this game on this rather long list of games?

No, this game is NOT on that list (and it's certainly not a text adventure).

HINT 1: In this game, you "tell" the car what direction to go in, but you don't directly steer, hit the accelerator or brake, shift gears, etc. There's a very specific type of game that has this sort of gameplay.

HINT 2: The console version of this game that I played was released in the early 1990s. The original arcade version in Japan came out in the mid-1980s.

Hmm. Are you Mad Max or any other game in a series like this?

Nope. Mad Max (the movies and game) take place in a post-apocalyptic future, which I said isn't the setting for this game. Also, you can get out of your car in the 2015 Mad Max game, which said I you can't do in the game I'm thinking about.

HINT 1: In this game, you kill your opponents using your car, but you don't use any weapons to do this.

HINT 2: The home console version of this game (which I played in the early 90s) was only available on CD because its anime graphical style and gameplay simply wouldn't work well (if at all) in cartridge format.

Are you Road Avenger?

This matches a few things - like the revenge... the car... the name change (because of legal confusion Road Blasters vs Atari's Roadblasters, etc).

Correct! It's Road Avenger, a game I first placed on the Sega CD! The gameplay was more like Dragon's Lair, which made it a really odd game considering you're in a car the entire time. :D

Your turn, Tawmis!

Good gravy, I commend your diversity in games, if you've played this one. :)

This one might be easy, if someone's played it...

I remember a computer game, where there's these fairies that tell lies and truths, and you need to figure out which ones to trust to get by.

I have played it and I enjoyed it at the time; I doubt I would today, though, especially as I'm nowhere near as coordinated as I once was in games, and I lack the patience required to play games over and over.

What year did this game come out?

From what I remember, the game came out a month after Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers.

(Figured that might be fun, by providing the answer, but still requiring some research for the year... and the month... it came out) :D

Okay, so that suggests this game came out in January 1994.

Was this game an RPG?

As far as I know, the Fire Emblem series was exclusive to Nintendo consoles, and Tawmis said we're trying to guess a computer game (and I don't think emulators count).

Oh. In that case... are you King's Quest 7?

(Those two are the only ones that came out in January 1994 that seem relevant, and I haven't played KQ7 yet, so I don't know - it could be right) ;)

No, the game I remember, the character you control is definitely male.

Yes (to both, the date and RPG). :)
