PaxWest: Adventure Game Heroes & Legends

Post by DeadPoolX »

PaxWest apparently has a whole Adventure Game panel set up on September 3rd, 2022.

What is PaxWest? From their website: "PAX West is a celebration of gaming and gaming culture featuring thought-provoking panels, a massive expo hall filled with the best publishers and studios, new game demos, musical performances, tournaments, and a community experience unlike any other."

The above-mentioned Adventure Game panel has the following people on it: Al Lowe, Dave Gilbert, Frank Cifaldi, Jane Jensen, Ron Gilbert, and of course, Ken and Roberta Williams.

I wish Maia and I had known about this sooner. We could've made travel arrangements (especially since it's a relatively quick ferry trip or very fast plane ride from Victoria to Seattle). Unfortunately, Maia has to renew her Canadian Passport, and with the insanely long post-lockdown wait times here for passports, we would've needed to know months or maybe even a year ahead.

Did anyone here know about this, and is anyone planning to go?

Regardless, I hope it gets recorded and put on YouTube. Officially would be best, but I wouldn't be against someone using their phone to record and upload it. ;)

I wasn't aware, myself.

But I think Roberta Vaugn (I am probably mispelling her last name) always goes; especially since she's working with Ken and Roberta these days.
I think Jasef (http://sierrahelp.com/forums/memberlist ... ofile&u=54) also goes - or has in the past.

That's one heck of a flight for Jasef, then. I may be making a mistake, but if he's going from AL to WA, isn't that crossing the entire USA from southeast to northwest? Wouldn't that take a long time?

I wish I could go, but it would take even longer for me to fly there (not to mention the jetlag...)

Well, I know it takes a good four hours to fly from Houston, TX to Vancouver, BC, so I imagine going from Alabama (no idea which city Jasef is in) to Seattle, WA is similar in flight time (and at least there's no need to go through Customs).

What really sucks is if there's a delay (and you've already boarded the plane) or you weren't able to get a non-stop flight, so you have to make a connection. The latter is always stressful because you're thinking, "What if the plane is late and I don't make it in time?"

Four hours is nothing much. At least flights within NA don't give you jet lag.

A few years ago I flew to London (and yes, granted, Australia to England is obviously much further than AL to WA) ... but after a 4-hour flight to Bangkok, I had a two-hour stopover there, and then another 26-hour flight to London. And that was the easy bit. On the way back, it took 32 hours to get to Bangkok ... another two hour layover, and then another five hours back to my home town. When I got home (about 1.5 hours after landing, thanks to being picked up in the city), it was close to 10 pm. I went straight to bed and didn't wake up 'til 11 am the next morning. ;)

I guess I struck it lucky, though, because there were no bratty kids or loud-mouth adults (or worse) anywhere near me on any of the flights. If I wanted to sleep on the plane (and I did -- desperately), I just grabbed a blanket and went to sleep for an hour or two. From what I gather, there are lots of flights within the USA that suffer from bratty kids, loud-mouth louts, or worse. Am I right?

You can definitely get jet lag flying from one coast to the other. There's a three hour different between the Eastern and Pacific time zones (i.e. when it's 1 PM in Los Angeles it's also 4 PM in New York). Is it as bad as flying to a country on an entirely separate continent? No, of course not, but you could probably say that about anywhere.

Some flights will have bratty kids and loudmouths and others won't, so there's no way to accurately answer that.

It really depends on the airline, the seating, the destination, whether or not the flight is headed to a regional or international airport, when the flight is taking place (i.e. month, week, day, and time of day), and so on.

In general, I don't think the US has a disproportional number of unruly passengers, it's just that the US has more flights taking place every day than most countries and the media loves to cover anything that'll get people angry when reading the headline.

Ah, fair enough. As you say, tales of unruly passengers make a much better media story (or YouTube video - I'm thinking of that video Tawmis posted about some people trying to preach on a plane) than a flight where nothing much happens.

The "Adventure Game Heroes & Legends" panel from PaxWest was officially recorded and posted on Twitch. All the Twitch-related website crap around the video is annoying to see, so the easiest way around it is to view it in full screen mode.

There's also a version on YouTube, but it's recorded by someone in the audience so you see the camera move around a lot, which is a bit distracting (or for some people, might trigger motion sickness).

You can pop it out of the Twitch window too -
click here to see pop out

But that said... Watching that, I still have a major crush on Roberta Williams.
