Clash of the Titans.

I was really worried when I heard they were redoing CotT.

Just saw this trailer...

I feel a lot more at ease. :)

I can't quite imagine that it's going to be much like the original.

I usually shy away from this kind of thing, since I've spent so much time studying Greek mythology that I generally can't stomach the Hollywood interpretations of it.

I think it's going to have some essences of the original - but no, it's a remake. Just like anything Hollywood does - it's a "new interpretation" - same way when they make the X-Men movies, or Lord of the Rings, or Harry Potter, or... Well, whatever Hollywood gets their hands on. It's always the writer/director's view of it.

So it's DEFINITELY going to have some differences (you can see that in the trailer) - but it looks like it might be a well done "version" of Clash of the Titans (since even the original strayed from Greek mythos).

Looks exactly like what I expected them to do with it. Except they're really putting the emphasis on the scorpions in this trailer. No sign of Pegasus, the Kraken or any of the Gods (except maybe a one second shot of Poseidon there.) It doesn't quite have a Greek mythology feel yet, but it's still the first trailer. I'm already sold on watching it.

But... "Titans will Clash?" Definitely one of the lazier taglines. :P

I believe they show Zeus also. He's just with a brown beard, not white.

And the scene where he's riding the horse on the beach; it looks like the horse has wings folded down; but it's hard to tell.

But they show Medusa. MEDUSA. The one thing I am extremely critical about. And it looks like they did a BEAUTIFUL job with her.

Every director wants to put his or her own "spin" on their movie, even if it's drawn from older -- and previously covered -- material. Why do they do this? I guess it's so their work will stand out.

Sometimes slightly different versions aren't too bad. I like what they did with the X-Men movies and Iron Man was fantastic. I had to get over my initial "WTF!?" reaction to the new Transformers movie, but after watching it again, it grew on me.

I actually liked Transformers 2. I know a lot of people hated it (for whatever reason), but for me it worked. And let's be honest -- a movie about giant robots that change into vehicles and fight isn't trying to much more than entertain.

My problem with Transformers 2 was a few things...

1. It felt like it was a 3 hour movie. And not in a good way.

2. 99.999999% of it seemed to be filmed in the desert; not much there for scenery. Got boring, which might have led to issues with statement #1.

3. When the Transformers were fighting hand to hand, it was happening so fast (they were spinning and such) that you couldn't tell WHAT was really happening.

4. A lot of the Transformers when in robot form looked a lot alike; there was no real distinguishing color differences. Which, I suppose could led to issues w/statement #3.

5. I still, after two viewings, am not sure what the whole story was. There seemed to be like three stories going on at once; and none of them really tied together; and some even felt... inconclusive... and not in a "we left it open for a sequel" kind of way.

6. I wasn't a fan of the "big bad enemy" at the end...

I really like that they're keeping the look of the Medusa scene from the original in this one. Although the novelty of seeing a CGI Medusa might have worn off on me after killing hundreds of them in "God of War." :P

I did like RotF myself (the more mindless action the better) but my main beef with RotF is, like Tawmis said, the fact that they almost all look the same. And for some reason, they need to have millions of little pieces all over them, and those millions of little pieces all need to be moving, so there's no focus point for the eyes. There's just way too much to look at for a show that can't hold a shot for more than two seconds.

Also, what's up with the girl Transformers getting snubbed in this movie? There's three of them driving around as motorcycles, and another one can even turn into a human. That seems like an incredibly important wasted plot point right there. But even then, Michael Bay seemed to pay more attention to giant robotic wrecking ball testicles than giving any of the ladies the spotlight.

Transformers
I agree that some of the Transformers looked alike. However, the important ones were all colored differently and looked rather distinct.

RC (the female TF) was supposed to appear in TF1, but got cut during editing. She made a brief appearance in TF2, but overall, she wasn't important to the plot.

The female TF who looked human was actually a nod to the "Pretenders" TF toy line years ago during the original cartoon series. I don't think they explained it well enough (or at all), which is a problem. Plus that leaves the question: "If she could look human, why can't they all?"

Some of the characters had too many moving parts. Jetfire was bad for that with his "beard." I didn't really find it that distracting though.

The "giant wrecking ball with testicles" was a horrible rendition of Devastator. Granted, the original version from the cartoon would've looked a little odd. Even so, I don't understand why it needed "testicles."

I actually liked the hand-to-hand fighting. Maybe I'm accustomed to tracking lots of action-oriented movement at once. The only fight scene that got a little confusing for me was when Prime was fighting a whole onslaught of enemies by himself.

And finally... the plot. Well, I'm not sure WHAT the plot was. That didn't really matter to me. It's a "summer action blockbuster" and with that in mind, you can't expect a fantastic story.

Star Trek
The new Star Trek movie was worse in my opinion. The story was lackluster and could've been covered in a single TV episode. Time travel has been so overdone in ST that using it here was almost laughable. Even worse was Leonard Nimoy's appearance, which made no sense in the movie other than to give "fan service" to Trekkies.

Maybe I'm more critical of Star Trek for the simple fact it's always relied on both story and flashy special effects. I definitely expected more out of it, especially with everyone claiming how great it was.

GI JOE
Oh and did anyone actually see the GI JOE movie? I didn't. It looked terrible. That's too bad, really. I liked the cartoon (to some degree) and loved the Image/Devil's Due version of it. I think they spent more time making the Baroness look hot than they did on anything else. :P

I'm just surprised no one was freaking out about it afterwards. These things being able to blend in as humans is a whole new threat to global security. And I still think they should've done more with RC. She makes a great entrance, and that's it. You don't get to see her do anything cool for the rest of the movie.

I was okay with Jetfire. At least his moving beard was mimicking something that would normally be seen swaying on a human. It's when their nipples and foreheads start moving around that they distract me.
Oh and did anyone actually see the GI JOE movie?
I did. Not the greatest movie, but not the worst either. It's like a cartoony "James Bond" with some campy "Sky Captain" thrown in. I rather liked the scene where they needlessly trash vehicles for five minutes, although the unveiling of Cobra Commander was weird and cringe-worthy.

I never said I thought the original was very true to mythology or a great movie. It was terribly campy. :D I just meant that the new one probably won't be campy like the old one and probably won't be accurate either. For some reason, when it's campy, the inaccuracies are less annoying for me.

I have no doubt it will look impressive, though.

I say it's word-for-word exact and stays true to Greek mythology! :D
