Comic Books
I've read a lot of comics (aka "graphic novels") and a thought recently popped into my brain:
Wolverine has an adamantium-coated skeleton, right? That metal is practically unbreakable, but... what about Logan's ligaments? Ligaments connect bone to bone and I can't imagine those are metal. If they were, his arms and legs couldn't move.
So here's my thought: Wolverine can heal any injury, but what if the flesh, muscle, tendons and ligaments were vaporized or burned away? Sure, Wolverine could heal it, but without anything holding his bones in place, wouldn't they simply drop to the ground?
Yes, this is an extremely geeky thought. But I am a geek (yay!) and I know some of you have read comics before. Any thoughts?

Re: Comic Books
Already been addressed.
So after CIVIL WAR (in short the New Warriors were doing a "televised super hero show" - kind of like "Cops") - and went after some villains - one of which was Nitro - who could self explode and pull back together. Anyone he blows himself up killing 600 people).
Wolverine goes to hunt him down, and Nitro blows himself up on Wolverine. Incenerating him to bare bones (adamantium laced). And he stood there, like a statue, basically. And healed BACK to full recovery by the time the issue ended like 20 pages later. Apparently if there's just one strand of DNA, Wolverine can recover from it.
Which, of course, like all comics, doesn't make sense. Why does his hair grow right back to its original length? Why does it not keep growing?
Comic science is out the window naturally.
Sort of like the Planet Hulk - he can withstand missiles launched at him, and not blink an eye. Then he lands on some planet and these alien dudes are shoving swords into his skin and hurting him.

Re: Comic Books
I liked the Marvel Civil War. I thought it was an interest semi-realistic take on how the "average person" would view superheroes. I also found it interesting that Iron Man was at the helm of the registration side. Although Iron Man is an incredibly powerful individual within the Marvel Universe, when he's outside of armor, he's as vulnerable as any non-powered person on the street. I can definitely see why he'd want superhero registration.Tawmis wrote:Already been addressed.

Maybe the blast temporarily fused the ligaments between his bones?Tawmis wrote:Wolverine goes to hunt him down, and Nitro blows himself up on Wolverine. Yeah, I know. But it's still interesting to think about it.Tawmis wrote:Which, of course, like all comics, doesn't make sense. Why does his hair grow right back to its original length? Why does it not keep growing?

Re: Comic Books
Necro post - 13 years old, incoming!
I knew we had a comic book thread somewhere on here... rather than make a new thread, just dug this one up.
Only person who may find this interesting is DPX, who isn't on here enough.
But, this video showed up on my feed - and gave it a watch. Really cool bit about Rob Liefeld, who has a pretty bad "rep" at his artistic abilities... but how he rose up, things in his personal life going on, and a cool little tidbit at the end...

Um ... wait a minute. Captain America's pectorals and chest muscles are wayyy out of proportion with his shoulder muscles and face. What the heck's goin on there?

Re: Comic Books
Yeah, Rob wasn't always this bad. They purposely used that image for the thumbnail, because it's by far the one piece Rob is flamed for. But previously, he was known "as the guy who can't draw feet" (he'd have dirt kicked up, or rocks, etc), hiding the people's feet.Rath Darkblade wrote: ↑Mon Jul 17, 2023 6:50 am Um ... wait a minute. However, if you watch the video, you can see his early stuff, he was definitely drawing feet just fine. He was hired by DC to do a comic Hawk & Dove, and he drew feet. However, for some reason, once Marvel scooped him up, he wasn't drawing feet. And it got more and more common. And as the years went on, he began drawing odd proportions of the body, that would seem physically impossible, but they made for good "action shots."
He was good at doing action... Like this, from X-Force...
But then when he went on to be a part of founding IMAGE comics... he was drawing women like this sometimes...
His Image Comic Youngblood went on to be one of the highest grossing (indie) comics - and blew a ton of Marvel and DC comics away - in regards to sales... but shows a good example of Rob hiding feet...
For that Captain America photo - someone broke down how Cap would have to look...
But the video itself, is actually (if you're into comics and familiar with Rob in any way), a pretty touching story.

Re: Comic Books
Interesting video. I'm not really a comic book fan, but I am familiar enough to know that he is (in)famous. His earlier art doesn't look too bad. I wonder if his later stuff is just him trying too hard to be "edgy". In some ways, he reminds me of Michael Bay. At first people loved the quick cut, high energy action in his movies. Later people started to realize that all the quick cutting makes it impossible to see what is going on.
Overall, he doesn't seem like a bad guy. Any mistakes he made seem to be a result of being a dumb kid than out of actual malice.

Re: Comic Books
Agreed. The video goes into how he tried to compete / was inspired by his then friend Todd McFarlane (maker of Spawn) - in how the art was done.notbobsmith wrote: ↑Mon Jul 17, 2023 11:37 pm Interesting video. Re: Comic Books
O...K. The X-Force picture also doesn't show many feet, except for Feral's yellow foot in the middle. (Cable's feet don't count, since he's wearing armoured shoes).
The picture he drew of that woman is ... odd. Very odd. Her legs are so long in comparison to her body, it's like looking at a large, flesh-coloured pelican.
And yes, the picture of "Youngblood" also doesn't seem to show too many feet. (But then again, how many comic book fans buy a comic book to look at feet?)
I agree with NBS, though; it seems like Rob is trying very hard to be "edgy". (It kind of reminds me of the "New Looney Tunes" show - take a look. You can recognise the characters, but the art style is atrocious, compared to the "classical" Looney Tunes).

The original artwork for Liefeld's Captain America is apparently going up for auction. Your chance to own a piece of comic book history!

I mean, if I could afford to do so, I'd purchase it. lolnotbobsmith wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 1:33 pm The original artwork for Liefeld's Captain America is apparently going up for auction. Your chance to own a piece of comic book history!
