Hmm ... those are pretty much the same, aren't they? There's just a slight colour change.
I'm confused as to why King Graham is looking at a blue cross. *shrug*

Yeah, the gold vs the gray.
And it's not a blue cross. Click the image and you can see it's a castle/tower.

Missed these cover threads earlier, so here are my $0.02:
I like the tan border. The color and texture remind me of medieval parchment, which fits the fantasy theme.

It's funny. I remember thinking the same thing when I first saw the image in one of the old Sierra catalogs that came with a game. The image was too small to make out what it was. I also remember thinking Graham was holding a giant key instead of a sword.Rath Darkblade wrote: ↑Sat Apr 20, 2024 11:22 pm Hmm ... those are pretty much the same, aren't they? Now that I look at the larger image, I can see the "blue cross" is a tower. But here's a question:
Did anyone else notice that Graham, in these images, is *very* tanned? Especially in the gray box. He's nowhere near as tanned in the game itself.
I just thought it was odd. If they wanted Graham to be so tanned, why was he "white" in the games?

See, to me the background "texture" of the gold looks like parchment to me. (I prefer the gold)
As for Graham being tanned; when you walk around all day, questing, you're bound to tan.
And he's probably darker on the gray box, because it's a bad scan.

True, but then Graham never seems to tan the more the game goes on ... *ponders*
Ahhhhhh!!! What am I doing looking for realism in a game with wizards, unicorns, and FREAKIN' OWLS THAT CAN TALK?!?

Early game covers, whether they were PC or console, had artwork that rarely portrayed the actual game accurately.Rath Darkblade wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 12:26 am Did anyone else notice that Graham, in these images, is *very* tanned? At least Graham isn't shown wearing a full suit of armor, like he was on some of the KQ1 boxes.
It's likely due to the limited color palette. In fact, I'd say Graham looked like he was suffering from jaundice in KQ1 and KQ2.Rath Darkblade wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 12:26 am I just thought it was odd. If they wanted Graham to be so tanned, why was he "white" in the games?

Hmm. In some ways I think the grey border better suits the artwork, but I like the textured beige in that it ties in the theme for the other early games. A nice motif for the first four entries.

Hah, I always saw it as gold rather than beige, which I thought fitting for a KING's quest.Semi-Happy Partygoer wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 7:14 am Hmm. You’re right, gold is a better description.Tawmis wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 10:07 amHah, I always saw it as gold rather than beige, which I thought fitting for a KING's quest.Semi-Happy Partygoer wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 7:14 am Hmm.
