Well, if you want to be strict about it, you spell it "cookie". :) However, this board is hardly strict, so 'kookie' (sic) will do just as well... ;)

*gives Rudy a cookie for asking, and a kookie for asking about spelling!* :D

*gives Rudy milk for the cookies, too* ;)

I started to work on Blade Runner and have fixed all of the problems but one. Oddly, there is no "No-CD" patch for this game. I found where to edit the EXE to get it to stop looking for the CD, so CD-less play has been accomplished. The odd graphics issue of the game where all of the sprites are displayed as if the refresh rate is set too high has the work around of Alt+Tabbing out of the game and returning to the game, but this has to be done every time the game is started. I managed to make a compatibility patch that is installed with the game that fixes this issue.

What I have not been able to figure out is there is the file "CDFRAMES.DAT" on each CD. This file is of a different size on each CD. The installed folder from the original installer has the file "HDFRAMES.DAT" that seems to be derived from all the "CDFRAMES.DAT" files. This is not a simple concatenation operation. The end file is half the size of the total size of all of the source files it is generated from. What is odd is that the original installer says that it is "Expanding Cache File" when it is processing the "CDFRAMES.DAT" files. What I think is probably going on is that the files are compressed, but contains duplicated data between the different "CDFRAMES.DAT" files so the sum of the compressed files is greater than the whole of the end file. The copies from all CDs total 669 MB and the end file is just 310 MB. I am not sure how to expand and then split and or join the files.

I can't just include the processed file in the installer for two reasons. It would add an additional 300+ MB to the size of the installer and more importantly, I don't want to be distributing copyrighted game data. I would consider making it a patch to be used on a full install by the original installer, but it is a 16-bit installer, so it will not work on nearly half of the Win7 PCs or number of Vista machines.

I have not yet played it. I have had it for a while, but never seem to think of it when I get time. It is a detective adventure game based on the movie. It is not FMV, but on as grand of a scale. It uses prerendered 3-D backgrounds and sprites. Many hold it in high regard. Moby gives it a high rating, 87 out of 100 from critics and 4.1 out of 5 from users.

I think I once bought it second hand a long tie ago, but never got around to actually play it. I'll have to see if I can locate the cd's :-) .

I played some of it years ago, but never finished it. In fact, I don't think I even got that far, really.

It's a good game and looks visually impressive for the time period. A lot of people say the game runs in "real time" but I don't think that's true.

Anyway... yes, I'm interested in a Blade Runner installer. :P

It's a great game. Very strong story, awesome graphics (1997) and it's very nonlinear. Definitely worth checking it out. ;)
