I love Gold Rush!
For the time it was made, it was a huge step forward: three different paths, emotional involvement with the character's history, well-integrated and realistic puzzles, solid and historical gameplay.
A great game indeed. A classic.

Good call! GoldRush was an excellent game! VERY hard - but excellent. It seemed (I can't remember) that you could randomly get sick on the boat and die. (Not sure if there was a way to avoid it). The path through the land was great fun with the snakes, quicksand, the whole 9 yards. I mean this was basically three games in one!

On the route of Cape Horn, and also via Land, yes: you can randomly die for cholera. But it happens rarely
It's true: it's like three (really, really HARD) games in one!

Oh, and I didn't mention Freddy Pharcas Frontier Pharmacist: it really is my light-hearted (but not so much), comedic adventure ever!

That's it - Cholera. Ugh. And what sucks is you can walk around sick for a few minutes - like there was something you could do about it! Well all you could do is retore and hope that you had saved!AndreaDraco83 wrote:On the route of Cape Horn, and also via Land, yes: you can randomly die for cholera. FFFP was another excellent game. I think that people underestimated how great this game was. Al Lowe to me is simply a genius. Just like Torin's Passage - it blew me away and showed that Al could do comedy, western (comedy) and even a good "Disney" type! And every time give us fun, lovable characters.AndreaDraco83 wrote:Oh, and I didn't mention Freddy Pharcas Frontier Pharmacist: it really is my light-hearted (but not so much), comedic adventure ever!

How much do I love Srini?Tawmis wrote:[...] And every time give us fun, lovable characters.

Simply incredible. And what amaze me of the game is that it has also serious undertones and themes (like the end of the modern world and the rise of the contemporary time; civilization vs. nature/progress vs. tradition; freedom of speech, etc.) , very well camouflaged by the Western parody!

I forget Ecoquest: since it is a proper series, maybe it deserve its own forum!
I'm now playing The Search for Cetus* for the very first time, and I find it sweet and amusing - plus, Jane Jensen helped in the writing (as she did also on Pepper's)
* I play too many games at the same time!

Re: Got a Sierra game favorite that doesn't have its own forum?
Good to see the Sierra forums rescued from the soon-to-be abolished 'Sierra Community' on VU's site (or whoever owns them now).
Anywho, there seems to be a forum/sub-forum missing for the Phantasmagoria games. I know there were only two in the series (original and A Puzzle of Flesh), although I think they are a bit worthy considering the sheer design departure compared to Roberta's earlier works. Either that or you guys haven't gotten around to creating the forum yet!
As for why I love this series:
Probably the characters, in both games. Not to put any other Sierra titles down, but I believe it's a lot easier to assimilate yourself as a person with an actual human with fluid animation on the screen as opposed to sprite-based pixelated characters. Today's games -- sure, they can have the best-looking 3D model design in the world, but in the end, they're not real. A good example of this transition is the Gabriel Knight series (sprite-based to full-motion to 3D-models).
... and that's why I love it!

I agree. I think Phantasmagoria should have it's own sub-section. I am sure Collector will agree to. Or we just revolt until he does!HarroSIN wrote: Anywho, there seems to be a forum/sub-forum missing for the Phantasmagoria games. I have the power to add forums/sub-forums, but I don't want to mess up his preferences or styles.

Although not a favourite I really enjoy mickey's space quest. It may be for little kids but it's still a great game.

Hey! Nothing wrong with that! EcoQuest is clearly geared towards educating young kids about different issues (pollution, decimation of our rain forests, etc) - but still very fun to play even with me being... Well, let's just say I am an old man!abyss wrote:Although not a favourite I really enjoy mickey's space quest. It may be for little kids but it's still a great game.
