Favorite Movies

Post by JasefWisener »

So what are everybody's favorite movies? If you don't have any favorites, really, what kinds do you like?

My top five (in no order) would probably be something like (500) Days of Summer, Inception, The Dark Knight, Law Abiding Citizen, and either Psycho or The Birds.

What about you?

Let's see... In no particular order... Mulholland Dr., INLAND EMPIRE, Fire walks with me, The Maltese Falcon, Vertigo, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lindon, Thelma & Louise, Blade Runner, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Todo sobre mi madre...

It's difficult for me to nominate single movies. I'm more comfortable by nominating my favorite directors: David Lynch, Stanley Kubrick, Pedro Almodovar, David Cronenberg (at least until eXistenZ).

I'm not a big movie person but I do enjoy a lot of older movies. I find it hard to find a good storyline nowadays. Some goodies that pop into my head are:

Breakfast at Tiffany's
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Moulin Rouge
most Disney animations
Wait Until Dark
War and Peace
Big Fish
Atonement
Edward Scissorhands
The Illusionist (Edward Norton is just a great, versatile actor)
There Will Be Blood (Daniel Day-Lewis, another great actor)

:D That's about like me. I find it really hard to not like at least some aspect of any movie that I see. I guess that's one of the reasons that I've chosen the major that I have.

The original Star Wars (A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi)
Indiana Jones Series (though the last one is VERY questionable because of the last 15 minutes)
Lethal Weapon Series
The Crow (the first one only)

Are the regular movies...
Then I'd throw in things like Fire and Ice

I could easily keep going. But off hand, I'd say those rank the tops.

Here's a topic that could keep me talking forever. I like to neatly organize all of my favorite movies into various categories based on the style, release date, and/or creators of the film. Up on my shelf, I have my black-and-white oldies, my Disney/Pixars, my Ghiblis, my action blockbusters, my old school Biblical epics, my Hitchcocks, my screwball comedies, my Chinese wire-fu movies, etc. etc.

My personal favorites across the board - in no particular order:

Porco Rosso
Twelve Angry Men
Singing in the Rain
Yellow Submarine
The Incredibles
Ghostbusters
Back to the Future
Rear Window
The Ten Commandments
Jurassic Park
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Tremors
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Shaolin Soccer

And my no. 1 favorite film - without question - that in no way I could ever see fit to improve upon or criticize, which I worship above even the works of the great movie maestros, that has shaped my very life since the age of seven and always gives me hope and direction in those darkest hours:

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure

Otherwise, the full list could go on for a while. It'd be easier to sort out a list of my favorite movies if we were talking about specific types.

Forgot to add The Music Box to my list. It's a great Laurel & Hardy short!
And Disney, of course. My favourites besides Destino are The Black Cauldron, Basil The Great Mouse Detective, Pinocchio, Dumbo and Aladdin.
Oh wait, and 200 Motels (produced by Frank Zappa)

(Andrea: noticed you have two Ridley Scotts in your favourite list. Makes me wonder if you've seen Legend?)
