I can't believe I forgot to post that here because it might have interested DPX (the only other "Comic Book" fan I think on here besides me?). I had posted it on my New Warriors site, just forgot to mention it here!

Collector, you should try reading some more "adult" graphic novel series, like Fables or Y: The Last Man. I think you'd like them.

Oh and by "adult" I mean written with a story and characters that aren't for kids or teens. Not p0rn, although I'm sure there's plenty of that in comic book form.

Here is another 'adult' comic - one that I, as a mere "damn'd furriner" ( ), found very interesting. It concerns the treatment of blacks in early 20th century USA, particularly in the South.

Well-written and very powerful. Well recommended, but keep away from kids.

See, this is where we're on opposite sides. I have never really cared for DC. The only time I collected DC was before the original 52. I was collecting the reboot of Aquaman, Hawkman, Teen Titans/Titans, and Outsiders. Then they did the original 52 - and it was so chaotic for me (barely having a grasp on DC, having been a Marvel Zombie for over 20 years!) - I bailed out of all DC titles. Then I eventually went back and collected Teen Titans again. But that was it. Then they rebooted with the New 52. And... this is the first time in history I have collected Superman and Batman. Ever. I mean - EVER. This new reboot has me actually collecting FAR more DC than Marvel. (I have dropped so many Marvel titles... and continued to pick up DC titles). I am collecting things like Huntress, Nightwing, Batgirl, Batwing - I mean, just about every DC title that launched from the reboot. There's a few I have since dropped, but the DC titles BY FAR out weigh my Marvel titles. This new DC reboot for me has been golden.

I feel the exact same way. There was really no need for this reboot.

The last time a reboot occurred in the DCU was in 1986 and that wasn't just for the hell of it. Before the 1986 reboot, the storyline had gone from 1938 to 1985. Needless to say, that spanned both the Golden and Silver Age of comics and caused a lot of confusion since back then no one paid the least bit attention to continuity.

That's nearly 50 years before a reboot.

I guess I shouldn't be too surprised, though. Hollywood tends to remake movies after ten years or less. At least DC waited 25 years before doing it this time.

I have a feeling you like the reboot because you weren't attached to the characters from 1986 onward. If nothing else, a reboot makes getting into the DCU easier for those who didn't like DC before or don't want to deal with over two decades worth of backstory.

What kills me with this reboot...in terms of Superman...is that Clark Kent is dead. WTF. You want to make Superman relatable? Clark Kent, growing up with the Kents, those values are what make him human. More human than most really. And to take away everything that is the heart of Superman. Hell even the "bromance" with Batman. I miss it. This is terrible. It is lazy writing.

Even if I had issues with John Byrne's Man of Steel and on. It was better than this. And Post-Crisis Supes and Lois were the best.

I liked the idea that was really Clark Kent, who played his role as Superman. That's different from some other heroes (like Batman) who feel they're the hero first and the person second.

And Post-Crisis Supes and Lois were the best.

I recall DC saying that "marriage is boring." Honestly, I preferred it. The whole "hide-your-identity-from-her" thing was ridiculously stupid and only really worked in Pre-Crisis without seeming cheesy.

Well, yes. I said as much in my post that I never cared for DC - especially Batman and Superman, and that I had been a Marvel fan (Zombie) for well over 20 years (which when I think of it, and properly add my age, it's actually about 35 years...)

The thing with the reboot, it's not because there's no backstory to have to worry about. That's some of it, yes. But DC got the best (mind you, not the biggest!) writers and artists for this reboot. They put everything into it. And made it exceptionally appealing to me, personally.

But on the flip side, I could completely understand it. Considering the EXTENSIVE X-Men and Avengers I have - if they rebooted Marvel, it'd essentially make those stories (in terms of continuity) null and void. And that would be annoying. I am just saying, as someone that was a VERY skeptical DC fan, the reboot (and how they did it) was an excellent jumping point for me (especially with the horrid work Marvel has been dishing out, with VERY few exceptions).

The only thing I am looking forward to is Bryan Q. Miller's Smallville comic series. The man is an exceptional writer and gets it.

Tawmis, I haven't read anything other than Superman and Catwoman in the reboot. I actually like that one so far. Action Comics is rubbish. Morrison can't write logically...at all. But which ones have you been reading and which ones do you like most?

Yeah, Marvel doesn't really do "reboots" as much. I'd say they more or less "forget" what happened before or somehow find a weird way to work it into the current continuity.

Magento is a good example, really. He's supposed to be a concentration camp survivor and that worked well back in 1963 when he was first created. But at that time, WWII was had only been over for 18 years, whereas today, in 2012, it's been 67 years since 1945.

Unless Magento is the world's best in-shape senior citizen, it's unlikely his origin story really works today. As far as I know, however, Marvel hasn't done much -- if anything -- to change it, since it's part of his character.

I know you really disliked the Ultimates line, but I would've been okay with something like that for DC. It'd be a way to change things around while keeping the "normal continuity" alive.

Morrison can't write logically...at all. But which ones have you been reading and which ones do you like most?

The really sad thing is Morrison used to be a good writer. Ever since Final Crisis (which made no sense at all) he's gone downhill.
