Manhunter playthrough

Post by notbobsmith »

So tomorrow I will start another playthrough of the Manhunter games. It's been exactly 10 years since the last time I played. Why 10 years? The last time I played, I wanted it to coincide with the timeline of the game, playing each day on the actual date in the game. Day 1 of Manhunter: New York was September 1, 2004. So this will be my "10th anniversary" playthrough. It's amazing how time flies.

You should record it with DOSBox and upload it to Youtube! :)

I might do that. It'll be pretty dull, though. I don't have a mic so I can't record a commentary. I should have recorded a video 10 years ago, but then I'm not sure if DOSBox could do that back then.

All my adventure game playthroughs are without commentary - many viewers prefer it that way in order to better enjoy the game itself rather than having to listen to someone talking through it. No problem with that.

For what it's worth:

Never posted to Youtube before. And I'm pretty sure no one wants to hear me talk.

That's good to hear. And you have to track all of the targets so you can travel to all of the locations.

I wish GOG would make these games available.

I wonder if Activision or the Murrys have the IP.

Just checked the Evryware site. There is somthing there now after all these years. They have a free download of a new version of their Ancient Art of War series. Looks like it was made with Unity.

Be nice to hear one way or another. Interesting development given what is going on with Sierra.

:) Thanks for asking. There must be some interest from fans of the adventure genre. The core "Quest" titles have all been re-released on compilation CDs over the years before GOG began offering them. Manhunter would represent something "new".

And Day 1 of Manhunter 2.

Personally, I always liked how the game was structured in New York better.

I need to replay both of them (at some point - add that to my list o' many things to do) - because they both kind of blur to me. What's the difference that you see?

In New York, each day is made up of several smaller puzzles that help you complete a final puzzle. For example, you need to get the data card at Coney Island to complete Day 1. Everything else leads up to that. In San Francisco, you just go around and solve the puzzles and the day just… ends. So Day 1 in New York always ends at Coney Island, Day 2 always ends at the museum, etc. In San Francisco, the days can end anywhere depending on what order you visit places. It's not a huge deal, but it just leaves me with the feeling that New York was designed better.
