GK3 Freeze

I am playing in day 2 when Grace is scanning in prints on Sidney. The game freezes every time when I click match analysis of the LSR print. I can't alt-ctrl-del or anything to get out of it and have to shut down the computer. The game plays just fine otherwise but I can't get past this point. Does it matter if I get this done or will the game progress anyway? I am playing on XP SP3.

I don't have FFDShow and I uninstalled other codecs but it still does it.

I uninstalled all I could find. Thanks for the suggestions though. I installed it on my kids computer which has win98 and just got through that part from my save just before the freeze. Now I am back playing it on mine. Every time I need to use sidney I will just save before that and use the win 98 pc instead. I would play the whole game on it if that computer wasn't down in my cold basement. I hate winter!
