New Style

Post by Collector »

I have mostly finished the new board style and have set it as default. I think you will find it easier on the eyes than Prosilver.

Let me know if you find any oddities or have any suggestions/reactions.

At last. Though, I did like how the old style restricted the width of the content. It's a little too wide for a forum on a 27" 1080p 16:9 monitor.

You can always not make the browser full screen. One thing nice about the scaling, it makes the style compatible with your phone.

That's rather inconvenient...All you'd need to do is make a max-width CSS entry for the body. Something like 1000px.

It's fine, I guess. Now that I take notice, most of the other forums I frequent don't have a max-width set either. Maybe it's the fact that the avatar space is so big. It really only needs to be as wide as the avatar but in my view it's so big there's room for two avatars side-by side leaving a lot of empty space for no good reason.

That was the Prosilver default. I think it is to allow much larger avatars. It probably would not be that hard to make it more dynamic, that is to vary according to the width of avatars in use, but that would probably take some tampering with the template files, which I am trying to avoid as much as possible to minimize upgrade headaches.

I will say there is a bit of excess real estate between avatars and posts though...

You do get what the design is based on, don't you?

Just looking over the style sheets. It's fairly well embedded into the responsive design. It doesn't make sense to me that it'd be a percentage of the element's width but that's what it's set as. I'll fool around with it and see if I can fix that extra space issue without messing anything up. Then you don't have to do any heavy lifting and I can tell you exactly which lines in the style sheets to change.

EDIT: Yeah, never mind. After half an hour I've discovered I hate percentage-based CSS values.

I could try to see if I can set a maximum width for the profiles, but it will have to wait until I have some time.

I have spotted a few things that need fixed, but who knows when I'll have more time to give it.

I am surprised that no one has noticed what the style is based on.
