GK3 & Vista 32: Bad Mix?

Post by BBP »

Hey there!

I've installed GK3 on my 32-bit Vista. It has little problems running. The first time I start it, usually the colours and lay-out in the menus are off, and the cursor disappears sometimes, but when I restart the game there's no problem.

Unfortunately Vista doesn't think so. Every time I've played GK3 on here, the system refuses to shut down or enter sleep mode. It will re-boot itself. Even when I leave the PC alone for some time, it'll reboot rather than enter sleep mode. And afterwards it'll say Windows "recovered from an unexpected shutdown". It's very annoying, considering how much time Vista takes to restart...

I've sought various other possible culprits, but the problem only appears whenever I've been playing GK3. What could cause it, and how do I get rid of it, aside from uninstalling?

Try disabling the Sleep Mode and see what happens. :)

Try playing around with the graphics settings in the game and Windows. Also, try updating the graphics card drivers.

I found that the start-up graphic problem (when I start up GK3 and the colours and lay-out are off and the cursor disappears) only occurs when I use the Autostart.

Unfortunately all that's happened recently is that I'm getting more errors. Now I'm getting "unrecognized fatal exception" and get chucked out the game. I never had these problems on my dinosaur upstairs...

I don't seem to have problems on Vista 64. If I get some time I will experiment on Vista 32. There is some chance that it is more of an issue with your hardware/drivers/installed programs than OS related and thus would not be replicable on my system. If I can't replicate it, I can't explore it for fixes.

I chucked off the game last night... it was just too much of a burden. Hopefully the PC will restore to its normal self (ahem).
