D&D - The Misfits.

Post by Tawmis »

An experienced Dungeon Master runs a game for four women who have never played D&D (but have done some acting and such)...

The whole play list - only watched the first episode so far... but it's pretty good.

Apologies for the upcoming hurricane of emoticons. *G*

A Minotaur with long horns and long swords.  I'd rather not know about his rings. What kind of accent does she put on for the minotaur?

Sneaki Menage? :| Sneaki the rogue? Really? ;) I like the depiction of her, though.

"This feels like gambling..." Of course it does. D&D involves dice and calculated risk. ;) Let the monsters come at you first, and you can defend and counterattack. ;)

Cool, zombies and skeletons. (Skeletons are especially good, if Skyrim is anything to go by, because they fall apart with one hit. :P But I'm sure D&D skeletons are different).

 @ Horatio the minotaur and Sneaki banter. "Where are your glasses?" ;) Oh no, skeletons with bows! "Ooh, I hate 'em when they shoot at me!"

What does Sneaki do? Fly up and attack from the air! Watch out for the arrows! ;) Smaller so harder to hit, but giving less damage. Shooting with her faerie bow. 15 (yay!) + 6 = 21, hits. Roll damage - 1d4+4 ... 7. Yay, a zombie is dead. ;)

That was fun. (I liked how excited everybody got when killing their first monster. I'm a bit surprised none of them, especially the minotaur, didn't do a "Come and get me" pose). Thanks for sharing, Tawm!

Heh, Skeletons of old, didn't take much damage unless it was a blunt weapon. These days, yeah, they're pretty easy in D&D (though, naturally there are different kinds of skeletons... Ogre Skeletons are tougher... and an undead Dragon... well, that's a nightmare) :D

But yes, was cool seeing how excited everyone was, the questions they asked.

I do feel the DM failed to mention a few things... he didn't explain well that movement (up to your maximum movement) is a FREE action, when the woman was asking about moving up so she could use an ability (It's only if you use the DASH action, moving beyond your maximum movement - with a maximum of double - so 30' would be up to 60') does it consume your whole action. Because she still seemed confused explaining that had she used her action by moving.

That was probably one of my favorites (though at times, I feel like she over-acted, in trying to always be funny, rather than it feeling more natural).

I also liked "I was going to put 3 down... until you brought up astrology."

And "One of the things you could have done as a Bonus action..." "I know! I know! I know!" :D

"Baulder's Gate... ruining everyone's understanding of D&D forever."

I was kind of rushed when I made my earlier reply (on my way to work-from-home), so it's possible I got it wrong. Was she roleplaying a minotaur or a tiefling? I can't remember minotaurs being a race, sorry.

However, I liked the short scenes of them dressed up as their characters. That was fun. :)

All right. I was misled by the fact that the character she was playing had such small horns, which reminded me of a Tiefling instead. ;)

I looked up Minotaur (as a race), and found that:

1. They get natural buffs to Strength and Constitution;
2. Those horns serve as versatile natural weapons (1d6 + Strength modifier), and also correlate with many of the race's traits to buff their action for the turn.
3. Goring Rush allows a minotaur to add a bonus horn attack to their dash.
4. Hammering Horns allows a melee horn attack with an added attempt to shove.

These traits belong to minotaur subraces from Ravnica and Eberron. :)

But she didn't use those horns, as far as I know. Didn't the DM tell her that she could?

I am only barely into the second one - I don't think he mentioned using her horns. He told the Ranger she had a bonus action she could use. But if the minotaur used her goring rush - she would have been smack in the middle of the skeletons (and away from her party) which may not have been ideal, considering how many skeletons there were.
