Re: MS-DOS Code Released To Public.
It is useless. It is so old, DOS 1.1, as to not be relevant. Even so, what ever insights that it might give, the license is so draconian that the developers of DOSBox or Free DOS can't even look at it. MS should open up, or at least freeware their old 16-bit stuff, but without a license that makes it a non-starter. If they freewared Win3x it would open up a lot of solutions for installers that I shelved solely because the target was a Win only 16-bit game.
As it is, the best solution that seems even remotely possible would be to start with the X-branch fork of DOSBox and incorporate parts of WINE into it the way the developer of jDOSBox had started. That could essentially be a "WinBox". Being in C++ it would be far more robust than Java and still be portable.
Ah well, I can dream.
