Letter Opener, Leisure Suit Larry 2

Larry opens Eve's mailbox and finds a letter addressed to her! Unfortunately, he has to go all over town to find a letter opener. If he tried to open it with his finger, the game gives him a paper cut -- which, because he has no antiseptic or band-aids, gets infected and kills him.

He finally finds a letter opener at the bathing-suit store, which he has to filch without the store owner noticing. And the clock is ticking because he has to get to the ship. And when he gets back to Eve's ... it's just a bill.

Quiver and arrows, Gabriel Knight 3.

Gabriel gabs an arrow from the quiver and throws it at a vampire, but it does nothing. "I wish I had a bow," he says.

Functional x-ray specs, Leisure Suit Larry 1

Leisure Suit Larry grabs the x-ray specs and puts them on, and they do ... *DUN DUN DUNNNN! * absolutely nothing. In frustration, Larry throws them on the floor ... and they create a space-time anomaly and get sucked through space back to Keapon Laffin's Magic Shop in Shapeir, where they came from.

Keapon looks at them and tsk-tsk-tsks. "Another lounge lizard, I see!" He grabs the specs and cleans them with his sleeve. "He got the lenses all steamed up, too. Naughty naughty! I'll make sure they go to a better hero."

Then the QfG hero walks in the door ...

Gabriel looks like a knight with the sword and shield, but he really doesn't know how to use either. Fortunately, just charging the voodoo cultist while yelling at the top of his lungs is enough to make them flee.

Leisure Suit Larry goes into Eve's house, uses her toaster to toast the bagels, and puts cream cheese on them. Then Eve comes in and calls the police on him for breaking-and-entering, using her toaster, and theft of cream cheese.

Laundry pegs, Leisure Suit Larry 3

Larry hangs his leisure suits out to dry in the hot Lost Wages sun using some laundry pegs (though he is not sure why he is suddenly using the British term instead of calling them "clothespins"). The suits, however, are made of polyester and are reduced to puddles of hydrocarbons in the intense heat.

Can of tuna, Police Quest 1

Sonny looks at the can of tuna sadly because he has no can opener. "I wish I could have this for lunch," he says.
