From the hero's view (looking in) - are you located on the left side?

Yes I am!

Sitting on a shelf -- Self explanatory
I don't really belong here -- As part of non-Sierra sci-fi franchise, doesn't belong in the game
You've seen me before -- As Tawmis shows, the Enterprise is seen in the opening credits too

Part of my name is both ends of a deed. -- Rath was correct. Both ends of a deed is the letter "D" and the ship is the Enterprise-D

Even though I believe in free enterprise, I can't be bought or sold. :twisted:

Look at the clues that I've given you. Sometimes the answer is in plain sight. -- See above

Your turn, Tawmis.

Search for the words, before you proceed;
There is no warning, for you to heed.
See me for a moment or briefly;
It's up to you, how much you see.
You will see me elsewhere;
These are the clues I thought I'd share.

............. all right. Nothing much leaps to mind, except one idea. I'm probably wrong, but I'll ask anyway:

Are you Suleiman ben Daoud (aka "The Name of Power") in QfG2? :)

Here's my reasoning:

1. Search for the words, before you proceed; ... in the cave, you are paralysed and can't continue without speaking that name.

2. There is no warning, for you to heed. ... no-one tells you what name to speak.

3. See me for a moment or briefly; ... you'll hear that name - briefly - from the Sultan in Shapeir.

4. It's up to you, how much you see. ... you must take note of that name! ;)

5. You will see me elsewhere; ... you'll definitely know the name if you know either the Bible or Koran/Qu'ran. (Suleiman ben Daoud is King Solomon, son of David. In Muslim belief, Solomon had assistance from many genies).

6. These are the clues I thought I'd share. ... done! :)

I think I'll start with the basics.

Are you in a game with "Quest" in the title?

I like it! But, sadly, no!

Yes!

For Rath's logical guess...

Phew. Giving clues is going to be difficult.

Let's see...

Search for the words, before you proceed;
There is no warning, for you to heed.
See me for a moment or briefly;
It's up to you, how much you see.
You will see me elsewhere;
These are the clues I thought I'd share.
First you will see me before the sunlight;
But you will also see me before night;
But no matter how hard you've tried
You will never see me once you're inside.

No (the last one was QFG! That'd be messed up to go right back into it!) :D
