Are you the thing (sorry, don't know what it is) - that the hero throws the rock at to make it pick up the boat?
(I assume Rath's question is the line thing? And not the "control panel" thing?)

I've never played QFGV, or have ZERO memory (based on how bad it looks, I may have erased it from my mind). So I am taking stabs in the dark, based off Youtube videos.

You may be a little confused. The lever you through the rocks at releases a brake and lets you take a cable gondola from the dock to Science Island. There's a separate control on the island that lifts a different gondola out of the water.

Full of anachronisms - The riddles mention things like atoms and perpetual motion machines; things you do really hear about in a medieval fantasy setting.
