Is it ZZ Top?

Yes I am!

I'm easily found - They show up fairly prominently in the bar (although some other acts are there too)
But then they took me away - For legal reasons, they were removed from some versions of the game
I end at the top - ZZ Top ends with "top"

One thing I noticed when looking up screenshots of the game (I haven't actually played the SQ1 remake):

The alien to the right of Roger looks a lot like the Kzin from the Ringworld game:

They are both even wearing that same green "shirt", if you can even call it that. I thought the appearance in SQ1 was a reference to the Ringworld game, but the SQ1 remake was released in 1991 and the first Ringworld game was released in 1992 or 1993. It's a Tsunami game which was made up of a number of former Sierra artist and programmers, so maybe they used the design in Ringworld.

That's definitely same alien. Appearance, green shirt, and even bow-legged legs. So definitely a nice little reference. Very good catch. Never played Ringworld, or I don't remember it.

The "But then they took me away" was the clue that was throwing me off, originally. But once we narrowed down to Space Quest, I should have revisited that clue and figured this out much faster.
