Encounter more than once.

Which would seem like you see it on several screens.

Or use it on several screens.

Are you the symbol of the Dark One (that the hero carries around and needs to use several times)?

You can't avoid me <-- Hero needs the symbol of the Dark One
I'm nothing but emptiness <-- Inside the Caves during the Ritual there's an entire scene in complete darkness
I don't come in spades <-- Doesn't come in spades, but perhaps heart - as in the Dark One's heart?
No

New clue:
I am not an inventory item.

Initial clue:
You can't avoid me
I'm nothing but emptiness
I don't come in spades

Gathering clues...
Quest for Glory IV
Found out in the wild (not in Mordovia or the castle)
Not in the Dark One's cave
Not on a screen with an NPC (Baba Yaga, the Lake, etc)
Not on a random forest screen
Not one of the encounters (eagle, rabbit, etc)
Not in the graveyard
Not a puzzle
Not undead
Encountered more than once
Not a living thing
Not an inventory item

===============

This is a wild guess. The only thing throwing me off from this guess is "you can't avoid me"... because it technically can be avoided?

But are you the gypsy's fortune telling cards?

Each time she pulls the darkness card (a symbol for the big bad)
And the cards don't have spades (or hearts, or any traditional card symbol)

But I think you need to ask for the fortune to be told? So I think it can be avoided? So that's what's throwing me off. But going to go with that.

Because when the fortune is being told, technically there is no NPC on the screen.

Also, technically, this is not in the wild (it's in Magda's cabin, after all). :)

Hmm ... are you the stone that the wraiths come out of?

- You can't avoid me ...................................................................... not if you travel by night - they're very hard to avoid
- I'm nothing but emptiness .............................................................. yup - the stone isn't there in the day, and the wraiths are nothing but emptiness
- I don't come in spades ................................................................... the wraiths give you "spades" of trouble if you don't have a magic spell to protect yourself. :) But the stones don't ;)

No

New Clue:
You are very, very close.

(Sort of) New Clue:
"In the wild" is open to interpretation. The Gypsy camp itself could be considered "in the wild". And Tawmis did specifically mention excluding the town and the castle. Most everything else would be "in the wild".

Hmm. I also need to point out that, technically, you don't NEED to get your fortune told to win the game. :) It just fills in the lore of the game-world.

I think I know. Are you the open grave that Igor falls into?

You can't avoid me ...................................................................... yup - you MUST rescue Igor to win the game
I'm nothing but emptiness ............................................................. yup - the open grave is nothing but empty air
I don't come in spades .................................................................. yup - Igor must've used a spade to dig the grave, but there is no spade next to the grave

Am I right? :D

No

New clue:
The player can't interact with me in any way.

Although, like I said, Tawmis is very, very close.

Uggh. I thought for a second you might be the jail cell that Davy is in, but that's in town.

Since we were discussing the Dark One, are you ... the Dark One's cave?

You can't avoid me ........................................................................... obviously
I'm nothing but emptiness .................................................................. almost, or so it seems -- until you learn what the Cave really is
I don't come in spades ...................................................................... I must admit, I'm stumped on this. The designers certainly don't pull their punches on the puzzles here, and there are acres and spades of puzzles. But I'm stumped. :(

Are you the Dark One's Card specifically from the reading?

Can't be avoided, brings emptiness, and again spades card thing.
No need for another clue if it's not that.

Yes, I am the Void Card!

You can't avoid me - Keeps turning up in the tarot card readings. Also a little play on words. A-void.
I'm nothing but emptiness - Synonyms for void.
I don't come in spades - Clue that it is a card.

Well that's half the fun is narrowing it down and figuring it out. Having just played QFGIV for my little channel, it should not have taken me this long to get there. Will think of something ASAP (currently at work).

I am two words, but what I am is really just one;
Use me, and things come undone.
Sounds complex but if you think about it, it's pretty plain.

All right, let's go. Are you in a game with the word 'Quest' in the title?
