You must watch me carefully ............................................................. i.e. you can't get silk - so you try jumping on the bed, and see that the bedsheet is elastic ...
Or you could just guess .................................................................... so, since all you can get is elastic rubber, and you can't steal your own bedsheet, you steal the spare.

You must watch me carefully ............................................................. i.e. you have to search through the chest, whether your own or someone else's ...

I don't know how that fits your three clues, but that's the only thing that can be seen both inside and outside, and isn't alive. Toro and his Axe can be seen inside the Adventurers' Guild, and later in the Dragon's Lair. On Minos's Island, you can also see a Minotaur and his Axe.

(Sigh. Unless you're something silly, like a double-door ... in which case, like Marvin the Martian, that would make me very angry)
