To my surprise you have the one on the top right correct - that is one of the two where we went sudoku solving with the wrong mats, which wasted us so much time...

Too much in fact. Handed the solution in, but we couldn't find it in time.

You may have noticed it's fairy-tale chess. The upside-down knight in the top left board is a Nightrider - if a horse jump would land him on an unoccupied spot, he can move again in the same direction in the same turn - and again and again until you run out of board.

The inverted queen bottom left is another fairy chess piece - the Grasshopper. The Grasshopper can move horizontally, vertically and diagonally - any distance, but they must always land behind a piece. So the white king in the bottom right game isn't checked.

Bottom right is so easy I'll let you find it for yourself :)

Top left - yes, that's the million dollar question. BF and I couldn't figure it out, so we put it in a chess move calculator that gave us Ta1 as winning move.
However, when the hints appeared, for this board they specifically referred to the black player having the opportunity to castle - and if he does that I'm not sure if Ta1 can still lead to mate after that.

Plays very, very, very much like Pillars of Eternity.
Going to say their "Normal" mode is like "Hard" mode on Pillars of Eternity.

After getting owned several times (now that I've gotten further, I can see what that review means about other groups owning you) - the problem is, I don't have a caster. I have three tanks and a bard, whose not great at spells. So if you find someone with a caster on the other side, if you do not immediately go after them, they're going to nuke you and shut you down (just like in D&D). The problem is getting to them you have to usually run by melee, who will take what's known as "Opportunity of Attack" - where they get free swings at you, and as long as they run with you and you keep moving away from them, they can keep making those attacks, which can quickly wound you as well.

So I recently turned down the difficulty and saved the game; not gone back into it to see the difference yet, but phew - not having a caster yet is brutal in those fights.

Hmm. Is it impossible to get a caster early in the game?

You say you have three tanks and a bard. Don't bards have spells (or spell-like abilities) too?

Also, are clerics considered casters in this game? Do you have a cleric?

So I don't want to spoil it in case you play; a caster joins the party during the "get to know the game" part of the intro.
However, there's a decission to make about the person and someone else...
My choice resulted in the Mage not "joining the party" ...
Now I am not sure if I made the OTHER choice if they would have still stayed, and something else happens to "dismiss them"...

The bard does do spells, but most of them are not super useful yet... so she's far more effective being the distance crossbow.

As for clerics, not sure... not encountered any NPC or PC wise.

Yeah it's a rogue version of Minesweeper - it also has the standard Minesweeper, but you can also play quests (complete 10 games of increasing difficulty) in which you can obtain things to make life easier - or have a bad luck moment and get something that makes your life harder. There is so much to collect it still boggles the mind. :D

It features 50+ different skins , each with great music - a lot of great humour and plenty of playing incentive.

Uh ... is it impossible to go back to that "get to know the game" part, and nab the caster instead of the third tank? ;)

Most RPGs don't let you go back to specific parts, especially beginning areas, so I imagine it's a "one time" decision where the only alternative is to load your game or start over, both of which would require redoing everything you've done beyond that point.

That said... I might be wrong about this since I've only played a little of PoE. I've been meaning to continue it, but I get way too distracted by open world/sandbox games, like Stormworks: Build and Rescue.

As DPX said, you'd need to go back to the intro and redo it, and make a ... different choice.
As I said, not even sure if I did the different choice... if the Mage in question would remain.

Oh? Why wouldn't the Mage in question stick around? *curious*

I know that in most RPG games, you can make dumb replies during conversations, which make your party members hate you (and eventually leave). Mind you, these are usually pretty obvious (e.g. "Why are you still here?" or "I hate you and want you to leave"). :P Dragon Age is pretty good at "dumb replies" ... in NWN1, they restrict themselves to "please leave" and the like. ;)

So in this game, why would the Mage leave so quickly? (Perhaps the Party dubs the Main Character "Sir Farts-A-Lot", which offends the Mage's delicate sensibilities?) ;)

The Mage does some questionable things... and something comes up... where you need to speak out (either lie or tell the truth).

That said, I now have a full party (and one of them is a caster!) - I am not sure why they had these characters available to "find" so far away from the start.

Yes, adjusting the settings to make it easier helps, but also having a full party helps.

I will say I found another area (pre-full party) where you KNOW something bad is going to happen...
Like that scene in Dragon Age (where you find an abandon camp) and if you sleep there a nightmare demon thingie appears...
So I expected as much...
But it turns out to be a Will O the Wisp, which is insanely difficult to hit with melee, so my bard with her bow was the hero of the day...
But that fight took like 3 minutes.

There is also another thing with traps... specifically web traps...

They NEVER go away. Ever.

So each time you pass through it your characters need to make a save.

One of my characters was exhausted.

So I literally waited 5 minutes for him to walk through the trapped area (there's no way around it if you fail to disarm the trap)

There's things in this game that could definitely be improved. It's nowhere near as good as Pillars of Eternity, despite the similar play style.

But with the settings changed and a full party, I will say I am enjoying the game more.

But dear god, there's SO much "resting" between all the moving between areas.

Where I am right now I'd probably give the game a 6 out of 10. Better than an average game. Enjoyable. But plenty of room for improvement.
