"None of the Above". I have the QfG collection, plus 1 (Hero's Quest, actually), 2, 4, 5 as standalone games.

I'm not sure I have a favourite. I used to like QfG2 the most because of the entire Arabian Nights setting, but I think I like the characters in QfG4 a little better. I also loved the setting and music in QfG5. I can't decide really. It depends on my mood.

Wow, $60 for LSL3? I never realized how high the prices were on these games back then! (My mom always brought home a new game for us when they came out). I suppose this shows how "Sierra" automatically meant quality back then because if I see sixty bucks slapped on an adventure game nowadays, I'd better expect it to be great!

After three times of that...

I only have one, I believe it's #4 or 5. (can't check it out now, sry) It runs on 2 CDs. Personally I really don't care for RPGs, so I never touched it.

Edit: It's QfG5. I bought it for 1 euro at the same charity store where I bought GK3 for 2 euros.

A high price hardly indicates the overall quality of a game. Look at Mass Effect, for instance. That's a great game, but it now sells for $20 (and that's in Canadian dollars).

I recently bought Empire Total War (plus two DLC packs) on Steam. How much was it? Somewhere around $16 for all of that. Is ETW a bad game? Not at all; in fact, it's an amazingly good game if you like the strategy genre.

Maia and I bought Team Fortress 2 for $10 per game (we bought two so we could play together online). TF2 is a fantastic online FPS.

All of those games are relatively new, with release dates ranging from 2007 to 2009. If I were to go strictly by price, I never would have bought any of them. Honestly, I see any game selling for over $40 as overpriced.

Sierra was able to charge $60 per game for a few reasons:
  • Adventure Games were extremely popular.
  • Games released on diskette used to cost more than those on CD or DVD.
  • Relatively low competition from other genres and even within it's own genre.
  • Fewer purchasing options in stores and no online vendors at all.
Sierra did release a lot of good games. I'd never deny that and I've played just about every Sierra title. However, judging a game's quality by price is a poor way to make a decision.

Collector, voting still doesn't work.

I have everything mostly several times over. There's still some holes in it: the 1997 collection, QFG4 individually (both CDROM and 3.5" disk release) and the original US release of QFG5 (i have a Sierra Originals rerelease only). And yes, they're quite pricey, especially the collections and QFG5, which go for between $60 and $100+ each.

The SHP style is somewhat broken with this version of phpBB. I have not yet been able to track down where the problem is. Polling works with Prosilver and Subsilver. I may need to simply recreate the SHP theme based on one of these two.

DPX, I agree with all your bulleted points. In addition, I think the era makes a huge difference too. Back then, the economy was at its highest, or at least on the way to getting there, and housing bubbles and other “bubbles” were not readily seen on the news. Now, people are tight on their wallets more than ever. I think that plays a part in the prices of games nowadays too.

BTW, the poll was working for me.

I got some great bargains then. $29.95 for QFG5, all the rest for under $20.

Those would be bargains indeed. Tried to obtain the 1997 collection yet? I consider myself lucky to obtain the Anthology (complete with box and inserts) for around $70 a few months ago.

Here's one, without box or manual, without the 2nd CD which contains the audio track, and seemingly worn off (though the description lists it as "mint", bad liar that seller is): 70 bucks. Personally, I wouldn't want it for free.
If it would be complete and in good condition, then yes, i'd go for it immediately.
This auction however illustrates how people take advantage of the high demand for it.

Alas, I fear he shall never live up to his name. :P
